Wild boar runs rampant inside Kyoto hotel

This place would have to be super countryside for a wild boar to waltz into a hotel. Typically, wild boars flee when they hear or see a human around.

The boar must have been scared stiff. Whats the problem with it going for a swim in a lake. They are generally peaceful shy animals until someone starts on them. Got a lot around here and they have never really caused a lot of trouble just some opened trash bags, i like to see them to be honest. One time a guy went after a family with a baseball bat outside my place, lets just say i stepped in on the boars side.

hunting is extremely dangerous in Japan. there are many hikers, especially as people retire and have more free time. every day i see lots of elderly fit looking hikers off up the mountains. they can easily be mistaken for bears, deers or boars. Also, many tourists bored with temples and concrete jungles head off into the beautiful countryside for hiking and camping and are unable to read japanese danger signs. lets put the guns aside eh?

Aly - in Japan, hunting for boar and deer is indeed allowed, and e meat can be commercialized. One needs to pass a VERY strict hunting school and exam, comparable in complexity with those in the EU. I indent getting a permit myself in the nearby future.

Hi ebisen!  Apologies for the late reply.  I am well aware of the regulations on hunting.  I am not advocating relaxing the hunting exam;  I am advocating making it more affordable or even free.  Between the school, the exam, and the equipment, it costs over 300,000 according to some websites.  I advocate making it free while keeping the same strict rules and regulations.  It would be better and healthier for us to hunt our own meat than eat the processed corporate one.

A show on NHK recently talked about how the govt is trying to attract more women to hunting. This is why. Also, another documentary was about this old Japanese guy who's been living off wild board, deer, and bear meet up in Hokkaido, for something like the last 60 years.

It got bored with living in the sticks and wanted some nicer digs for the night.

If I were a wild boar running inside a hotel and considering how I should do so, "rampant" would likely be at the top of my list.

How dare the boar take a dip in the lake. There just seems to be this sick mentality of killing animals whenever they're visible, no matter where they are.

Most schools keep one or two for cornering animals or people. Legacy from feudal times. They should use these on occasion in the US (and nets etc.) instead of guns.

Both boar and deer numbers are increasing at an alarming rate and the damage being caused by them is extremely costly.  Hunting needs to be made more accessible in those areas where those animals are plentiful, with laws not allowing simple culling, but where hunters are taught butchery skills so as to be able to take the animal home and feed on it.  Deer is healthier than beef and boar is healthier than pork.  Without proper hunting, accidents and damage by these animals will increase and get worse.
