A few days ago there was an article about how the police are called on trivial pursuits such as 'chasing' a big snake in a park and that we shouldn't do call them for such things. Does this monkey count?
It's going to be interesting to see how long a country monkey can outfox the city police.

So this monkey is "Nihon Zaru" and acting accordingly.

I can just imagine watching this sped up with Benny Hill 'Yakety Sax' music playing.... Isn't there some sort of RSPCA/Animal Control Organisation in Tokyo?

I will be surprised if they catch this clever monkey. They sure as hell cannot catch many criminals.

Toyama. every old man, every taxi, and every homeless person urinates on the ground. If you take these people and this Japanese national custom out of life in Tokyo, there would be only a clean city left.
Monkey see, Monkey do!

Immigration should be in charge of catching and detaining this 'illegal migrant!'
-They'd have him in custody in no time!

I think its a bad idea to try and catch a monkey with your bare hands. Even if you manage to corner it, it is probably going to hurt you. I have heard some horrific stories about what a monkey can do to a person.
Better to either hit it with a tranquilizer dart or trick it into a cage with some food. That or just chase it away when necessary.
If the police continue like this some cop is going to get hurt and its not going to be funny anymore.

Why are the police involved isn't there an animal control group in Japan?

Run buddy run!
TokyoGas
Sounds like a typical day/night in many parts of Tokyo.

This is my favourite line in the whole article:

Why would a monkey be driving the police crazy? I'd rather have a monkey running around than someone wielding a knife? And so what if he urinates on the ground in public? They make it sound as if it's something for the monkey to be ashamed of. I don't see these people complaining about all the oyajis doing it in public - I've seen them do it in broad daylight on major roads (the last time happened outside the station entrance).
stanoue
You know, I've seen monkeys do far grosser things in public...
Sarge
He dropped by my place the other day - I gave him a banana and wished him luck.
dr_jones
...That may not be too surprising..."
since many drunken Oyaji are doing the same.

The police here couldn't catch a cold, let alone a monkey. Why are there idiot police with nets instead of professional animal handlers?
nisegaijin
somebody please post a pic of cops chasing monkey!!! Anyway, just shoot the damn thing... if you are more moral, haven't they heard of tranquilizers?
serindipity
It's OK. The police will get him when he comes in for a confession! And, he will also get a suspended sentence to be served in the mountains. - You've got to wonder why this monkey hasn't been spotted more regularly and captured when it's running loose in the most densely populated city in the world. Says a lot for the culture, doesn't it?
smithinjapan
Wait until he throws his defecate in a J-cop's face! Then he'll be labelled 'troublemaker' for sure! Hahahahaha.... this will definitely make international news!!
Ah_so
Just let the monkey be and stop wasting time and resources on catching him. How much harm can he be doing it?
franz75
Should be in the entertainment section. This monkey has more talent than most of the people in this section...
kjunluc2
He/she is just doing what comes natural; monkey shines. How about the ground-bound Homo erectus? Not only do they urinate on the ground but do worse things; steal bananas, money, bikes and ATM machines. If this monkey is docile don't monkey with it. Just let it be. It's probably bringing more joy than sorrow.
Badsey
Where are the Liberals? -and why isn't this Monkey's rights being protected? AFL-CIO (if said monkey is part of a union) NaaCM? ACLU?
irabujapanu
Think japanese police are happy to have such an extraordinary even in their life. Finally they have something to do than giving directions and cleaning streets.
Badsey
this monkey should put his name in for PM. He has shown clearly he can "run Tokyo" and can mostly run Japan as well.
medievaltimes
I see humans doing this in Japan on a monthly basis.
Hughgarse
is that little bugger still about???
Itabashiku
I guess there are no tranquilizer guns in Japan. They should let loose one of the recent "knifers" or the 60 year-old lady that threatened the school, to rid Tokyo of this "troublemaker" that urinates in public.
