A few years ago, I took my granddaughter to buy a furin. She tried several before picking a small metal one for it's sound. We still use it, and have a happy memory besides.

I always get a crack out of people who HONESTLY think a wind chime literally makes things cooler. Like it's an amulet that changes weather. I love my little fuurin, and I'll admit to having grown accustomed to the lovely sound in summer; but it's any wind that blows the fuurin that makes things feel cooler, of course, and you remove the fuurin and you'd still have the wind.

I can tell you that after years of exprimentation with different wind chimes is that they do not make you cooler.

i prefer the sound of the bells children carry on the way to school to ward off bear attacks. only lasts 20 mins and is so refreshing.

Yes, I think 風鈴 (furin) or wind-chimes used to be essential items in summer orchestrating a world of light and sound when I was a little kid. They certainly made us forget the heat with humid air and relieve the feeling of irritation Japanese summer brought in, probably fantasy beat of coolness in a good sense. But nowadays, along with the popularization of air-conditioners, I hear that there are some people who complain about a noise problem when hearing the sound of a wind chime.
