Police in Shari, Hokkaido, said Tuesday that a 79-year-old woman has died after she was bitten by her own dog.

At around 11 a.m. on Monday, a male passerby placed an emergency call when he spotted a woman bleeding after being mauled by the dog, Fuji TV reported. The woman, Tsuneko Imano, was bitten in several places, including her right arm and shoulder. She was transported to a hospital in Kitami City, but died from hemorrhagic shock due to massive blood loss from the bite wounds.

According to reports from local police, the dog that attacked Imano was a three-year-old male Akita dog, measuring 1 meter in length and 0.8 meters in height. At the time of the incident, the dog was 10 meters from the home’s entrance, connected by a chain about 2.5 meters in length to a pole beside the doghouse.

Imano lived with her husband and son but she was alone at the time of the attack. The dog was taken away by municipal authorities.

Shari is located in Okhotsk Subprefecture.

RIP poor lady. Your dog probably snapped due to the miserable life he lead. "At the time of the incident, the dog was 10 meters from the home’s entrance, connected by a chain about 2.5 meters in length to a pole beside the doghouse." No life for a dog, more so an Akita who needs space to run and burn off energy.

Dogs are called "mans best friend" for a reason. if a dog attacks its owner, it is the result of abuse. although every humans life is important (RIP), i cant help feeling sorry for pet dogs outside on short leads.

I imagine if I was chained to a pole by my neck I would probably kill someone eventually.

I'm no dog expert but have owned several of them and different breeds. Luckily all my dogs have been good and have never showed any sign of aggression towards me, my family or guests.... but strangers do not get a warm welcome. I do know all dogs have the ability to attack at times and some breeds more than others. If an unprovoked dog (Pet) attacks someone in a private or public place then that dog should be put down regardless of how much that dog is loved by its owners.

Dog must have been slowly going insane being chained up. People shouldn't own dogs if they can't/won't walk them.

Another canine menace. Should be put down ASAP.
