More recently, at a different zoo, I also once watched a silverback vomit and then eat it again.
tinawatanabe
It's about only his looks. I saw other pictures of his which a Japanese site jokingly says "The Thinker" of Rodin.
That wild? i wouldn't touch then. Good looking but not my type anyway.
heynong
@tinawatanabe
Of course he is good looking as late legends of J actors Ken Takakura or Toshio Mifune. I do not understand the word of intelligent looking.
He may be too dumb for J girls. If one of fans of J girl try to touch him, she will not survive another day.
Maria
I hope the added publicity will lead to improved conditions for the gorilla and other animals at this zoo. Less concrete would be nice.
noypikantoku
"Gorilla Fetishes" jeez J-women are always extreme. This will surely give people from adult video industry new ideas about their new projects.
clueless
I know a J-guy who has the nickname "Doraemon" (He likes the name) Has a head the size of a beach ball.
He'd give this gorilla a run for his money.
Ladies....form an orderly queue!

Wha . . ??

Well I guess he's better than those soshoku danshi. So I don't blame these j-gals.

Or a hero!

@DaDude
When they are actually men i'd guess.

I must say TOUCHÉ! Point-Smith!
DaDude
First it was Buddhist statues, now women have the hots for gorillas? When will actual men come back in the picture?

Next some city official will make him a citizen.

"ikemen gorilla"
Hee hee!
kickboard
Some people are taking this way too seriously. It's just a marketing ploy. Last year it was the kawaii capybara, this year it's the ikemen gorilla.
lolozo79
Note to all 2 meter tall steroid built muscular types with ape-like features, a love for kids and a penchant for looking intently at his surroundings. Move to Nagoya. The chicks will love you.
Serrano
That gorilla does look more intelligent than many guys ( see the other pictures tinawatanabe mentioned ), hee hee, but it's still a gorilla.
WilliB
Take him to Roppongi!
Tessa
this gorilla's all the buzz in my ladies' classes. I have a lot of trouble explaining the term "silverback," though. Does anyone know what that is in Japanese?
bjohnson23
at least this gorilla is caged, can't say much about the loose one's found in Roppongi, plenty of gorillas and bamboos don't need to go to a zoo.

tinawatanabe: "You have to see other pictures of him. He is good looking. I'd say intelligent looking."
I rest my case.
MarkG
Disgusting..... He's a gorilla!
In many cases without zoos to educate and maintain a population the captive animals could fade into extinction.

Sexless life is really cruel for some women...
tinawatanabe
You have to see other pictures of him. He is good looking. I'd say intelligent looking.

Ha ha ha! This article is hilarious. And we wonder why Japan has a declining birthrate? He's described as a ''hunk'', and a father who always ''looks over his children'', no doubt a real alpha male. And meanwhile human males spend their time fantasizing over AKB and big boobed anime heroines, while the women despair that their ''prince charming'' that they've dreamed about since childhood is only a figment of their imaginations. As for the gorilla ''looking them in the eye'', he's probably wondering what all the fuss is about.

I went to the Bronx Zoo as a kid. The silverback there was pissed at something, punched a heavy steel door, and his fist left a big impression in the door.
Kobe White Bar Owner
I'd guess social media would be to blame for this becoming popular. Poor animal must be thinking "stupid humans!"
sillygirl
Yet these women like their men either painfully thin and tall or with paunch. I don't get it.
HM7769
Flocking to support cruelty.
Zoos are prisons for these pitiful animals...only the animals are not criminals, only the people who enslave them are.
Japan's zoos are notoriously bad. What century are we living in?

A gym hitting gorrila,it's big in Japan.
smithinjapan
You really have to wonder what's going on in the minds of women that actually find a gorilla physically attractive (or any men who might think the same about female animals of the non-human variety). And the anthropomorphism is a wee bit over the top here as well.
“He will look you in the eye and sometimes if you’re taking photos it will look like he’s posing for you like a model,” said Ishikawa. “But he’s the head of a group of five gorillas so it’s likely he’s just watching out for them and keeping an eye on you.”
People will see what they want to see. Period.
Tessa
You mean, he'll be getting married?
ifd66
After a few more years of captivity unfortunately you can be sure he will not be as fit - both mentally and physically.
UK9393
My wife, Japanese, just shook her head and uttered, 'baka janai no?'
Tessa
OMG, I think I had a blind date with that guy!
itsonlyrocknroll
Women say he’s very good-looking?..........From what angle in the psychiatric assessment unit would that be? Quadrupedally challenged, knuckle-walker, with atrocious table manners and a diet to match, frequently dinning on small animal prey such as grubs, caterpillars, snails, termites and ants..........
savethegaijin
Let's uh... let's not do this, Japan.
danalawton1@yahoo.com
Things must be pretty bad in Japan when an actual Gorilla becomes a sex symbol of sorts.
TexPomeroy
Next thing we know the Abe government will start subsidizing Japanese men to make themselves look like this ape so the birthrate in Japan can rise...
HonestDictator
Steroids... That ape has been either hitting the gym pretty hard or someone's been giving him some of those muscle enhancing food supplements.
