World's oldest man dies at 112 in Japan

I wonder what is the secret for their longevity. Diet? Lifestyle? Good Medical care? Other factors?

I could have sworn I read about the world's oldest man dying last year too... must have been a mistake.

It looks like you might be able to live longer if you live in Japan. Or maybe it just seems longer.

I believe it's a little bit of everything. Japan's diet consists mostly of fish and vegetables. Moreover, Japanese people like to walk, get exercise and do things that contribute not to themselves but also other people (ex-volunteer cleaning the beach of debris).

The main reason I believe Japan boasts the longevity of their citizens is their diet and exercise.

I excluded the lifestyle part because I read in an article in Japantoday that Japanese people are working themselves to death.

AFP's penchant for hyperbole never ceases to amaze me. This is a rather disrespectful way to refer to a dead person.

If anybody wonder why the Japanese live so long, you need to go hiking in the mountains because most of the hikers are older residents. During the spring, this older woman passed me on a trail at Mt. Takao going up hill. I am not kidding she really did it. I was very impressed and embarrassed at the same time.

Must have been amazing living through Meiji, Taisho, Showa and Heisei periods.

First and foremost RIP ... He must have collected pension from the government for more than 50years! Thats more than the number of years for a working life of most people!!!

The secret to their long live is eating right and living stress free!

Actually, I may be wrong, but I thought the theory that it was a certain gene was gaining a LOT of ground in the scientific world. That it might be extractable and so forth.

What's amazing is that at one point, this guy was also the world's youngest man (well, baby).

Only a handful of ladies left in the world who were born in the 19th century and are still alive today.

Quite an exclusive club.
