If all you are going to do is "urge" you have already lost the battle here. Japan doesn't listen to anyone when it comes to issues like these, they will obfuscate, deflect, and make comparisons to "other" countries, point fingers, and continue to go their merry way.

until then keep slaughtering animals? How about this year 2018 instead!

Never going to happen, the rich ie politicians really need a stamp or a button, a figurine made from an extensively a finger nail they don't care that the other 99% of the animal is killed. As long as they get what they want. Pretty much how they view voters too.

It will happen for sure. Problem is that just like China there will be a black market that will continue to trade in ivory.

Not sure why you think that... reasoning?

I agree, but there is not much else the WWF can do.

It's always classic to watch Japan say "we don't do it!" then when they do insist "it's different!" then ultimately, "You're attacking our culture!"

Above comment absolutely right. But you missed out the famous "This is Japan".

The question is why wouldn't you think that.

There will be a black market but legalizing the sale of ivory has only made poaching worse.

Perhaps I misunderstood your original comment. I wasn't referring to the Chinese black market, but your comment "It will happen for sure." - which I took to be referring to the original article stating that the WWF was urging Japan to close its ivory trade. Japan will do what Japan wants to do.
