Y42.51 mil in cash found in garbage at Gunma dumpsite

Workers at a waste disposal company in Numata City, Gunma Prefecture, discovered roughly 42.51 million yen in cash mixed in with the trash, police said Wednesday.

According to police, the money was found at around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fuji TV reported that two employees of the industrial waste disposal company were sorting out garbage when they came upon the large chunk of cash. The employee immediately informed his boss, who then reported the incident to police.

Police said the money was in trash brought by truck to the dumpsite and that it somehow might have been mistakenly thrown out.

The money will remain in the Lost and Found Department for three months until the rightful owner claims the missing property. However, if no one claims the money, the cash will go to the waste collection company.

pvsball,.... you may actually have something there.... that could be a great way for money laundering, especially if it simply goes into the Coffers of the Company rather than being distributed equally amoung the Employees of that Company.

i would surely hand it to the cops too. but before that ill get 1000yen and eat a bowl of ramen LOL

I would hand it in, hard to explain why I got so much extra money. Imagine spending it and later being forced to repay it. Shudders.

yes, it would, if you instantly buy a big house or deposit it straight into your bank account....... with that ammount of cash I wouldn't even think high, I would simply stop working and go enjoy this beautiful life, bill by bill. After some small charity (to not draw attention) here and there, of course.

How much tax would they have to pay on finding it i wonder any one know .

However, if no one claims the money, the cash will go to the waste collection company.

The longest 3 months of their lives (hopefully).

I hope they give it to the guy who found it and his boss for reporting it. . . I think a lot of people would have kept it, and acted like they didn't know anything about it.

Yeah... If I found that kind of money, I'd be surfing off a beach in Hawaii by the next day.

My better half opines that the money was likely thrown away on purpose by somebody who was being investigated for income tax evasion or the like.

Hmmm. Perhaps that was some of the money that was meant to be used to pay for the construction of the Moritomo Gakuen. With investigations starting into the dodgy cash donations from senior politicians, someone needed to get rid of the evidence quickly. Other garbage collectors should be keeping their eyes peeled for more of it.

The construction company "claims the operator paid only 460 million yen out of the total contract price of 1.94 billion yen."

They should have gone to their boss and said "Look at the 32 Million yen we found"

must be mine

My better half opines that the money was likely thrown away on purpose by somebody who was being investigated for income tax evasion or the like. Apparently, it's not that uncommon in Japan

If I found that, I just might start up a massage parlor or barbershop.

That's nearly 45 grand!

Assuming you're talking USD, it's nearly 450 grand.

6 ( +10 / -4 )

Holy smoke! That's nearly 45 grand! I doubt if the owner will be found. If not, I hope the money is divided equally among the employees and not just taken by the company owner.

my thoughts exactly illogical. if this happened in most other countries, it wouldn't be news because the workers never would have reported finding any money.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

Again, amazing Japanese honesty which could of otherwise netted the two workers some handy pocket money.

Dirty money?

it somehow might have been mistakenly thrown out

Yes, that's a good guess...
