Time to call UNESCO?

I wonder what the oldest tree in world is.

The difference between this and other ancient sakura trees in japan and ancient trees in other countries is that the Japanese trees have been cared for for up to 1000 years.

These are not wild yamasakura, but the hybrid species imported from China.

Ponder that for a moment.

Did the same families care for the trees and hand down the task to their descendants?

Did the villagers as a whole cherish and care for the trees as a community effort for all those years?

If that is not a National Heritage, I don't know what is.

Amazing.

Absolutely. The famed redwood trees of northern California are about this old too.

Japanese Sakura weren't from China. These are native to Japan, and horticulture became very popular among ordinary people during the Edo period, many varieties improved were produced.

Surprised & Confused that it wasn't in Okinawa.

Why not let it die a graceful, natural death instead of propping it up with more and more poles?
