I doubt too many Japanese care. I know women here who still wear fur!
Thunderbird2
I'd have been more impressed had they been Japanese people dressing up.
kawabegawa198
No one cares about this in Japan.
People for the Eating of Tasty Animals, go home!
BaltanSeijin84
Destroying living things for the sake of human vanity - then charging 4000000 yen for it. And you call us Baltans cruel? By the way TB2, I doubt you would find many Japanese girls who would look more impressive dressed up in that green bikini.
Jimizo
'I'd have been more impressed had they been Japanese people dressing up.'
Me too. Then again, my Japanese coworker did rail against that disgraceful creature who bagged himself a lion in Zimbabwe the other day.
Yubaru
Surprised the thought police didnt get involved. Probably thought it was some cosplay convention.

Pretty big on animal rights, but not to big on PETA. They lost my vote right about the time they started kidnapping and slaughtering household pets and strays. Give me the SPCA or the RSPCA any day.

Does Hermes think that the crocodiles that made the handbags died peacefully in a pillow fight after a life of luxury with hot cocoa and marshmallows every night?

I feel like having a steak.

As long as the protesters are not naked (and some of them do wear leather shoes, ffs) I couldn't care less...

ebisen: "As long as the protesters are not naked..."
Who cares if they are? It wouldn't be posted as a pic of the day if they were in the buff, for starters (ie. not covered), and second they most certainly would not be allowed to protest downtown Tokyo, either. I'm surprised the woman got off with the bra and shorts.
massiou81: I was going to say you're reading too much into it, but it perhaps a little odd that there is no mention of any company names directly on the Japanese signs. Maybe there were other signs we don't see in the pic, or else legally they cannot mention them in Japanese. In any case, I thought it funny that they catch the GAP shop front sign in the background just above the signs.

Crocodiles at 3 years old are cut open alive so their skin can be used for these $40,000 Birkin handbags and ostentatious luxury $2,000 watch straps.
Or they are shot in the head with a bolt gun, their necks are sawed open, sometimes with a box cutter. How is this not cruel?
One of the funniest things to me, though, is one of the most self-righteous vegans in the world, Gwyneth Paltrow, has worn one of these watchbands. Wow.

PETA are a little bit silly in my opinion. not just this "protest" but, as much as we may disapprove, saying that the US dentist who killed Cecil should be hanged is just ridiculous.
Wakarimasen
Is the Accesories to Muder girl supposed to be a croc or is she a Green Spiderwoman? Plus I would hazard a guess that the Hermes Birkin bag using croc skin is by far not the most "cruel" thing in the high-end fashion industry. the way many of the wannabe models are treated would be one thing that feels a lot worse to me.

As long as an animal is humanely put to death beforehand and it's not a rare or endangered species, I don't have a problem with products made from animal skins and furs. Afterall, how many of these same people who are so angry about animal skins and fur coats are also wearing leather goods like shoes, belts and jackets made thanks to cows? It looks like some of those people protesting in the photo above just might be wearing leather shoes and sporting leather bags.

The sign that says killing animals is murder bothers me. These are the same sort of people who say copying music is theft, and sexually suggestive language is rape. By abusing words that carry great meaning to elevate their petty cause, they lose all integrity in my eyes.
And, having helped make a few handbags, I can guarantee it takes less than one croc skin to make one. Professional leather workers are very careful to minimize waste, if only for reasons of economy.

Hanging is disgusting and barbaric. That despicable idiot should be given a free safari, alone and unarmed, wearing a zebra costume. I'm sure he'd be able to appreciate those canines. Go get 'em, tough guy.

Whatever you think about their message, they should be allowed to say what they want without being arrested or sued. It might interest people to learn that it's not even clear that this type of protest outside of a shop is actually legal in Japan.
wtfjapan
wow shes got very large "crocodile skin" across her chest
PSandoz
That has to be the least convincing crocodile I've ever seen; looks more like the dreaded love child of Kermit and Spiderwoman.
Monozuki
I often eat a hamburger as nibbles when I drink cold canned chuhai. Interesting to see policemen's don't-give-a-damn attitude behind the PETA protesters.
shallots
Doesn't look like that to me.
maglev101
Forget animals rights. Should worry more about global warming, instead. That crocodile outfit chic probably raised temperatures by a few degrees. Her body is smokin' hot!

It's a bit of a shame Japanese women are such slaves to foreign brands when Japan is more than capable of producing its own high quality products.
It's fair enough to point out the cruelty that is involved in exploiting their vanity.
To be frank, I've never met a man who chose to date a woman based on what handbag she owned, so why do they bother?
I've read it's to "compete with other females" which I don't understand.
Surely they could use other symbols to do so?
I've no idea how successful PETA are in getting their message across but what I've seen in Japan is that they simply raise prurient interest in half naked foreign chicks.
wtfjapan
firstly most crocodile is eaten for its meat as well as the skin, crocodile takes great, so why waste the skin i the process. im all for People Eating Tasty Animals

HonestDictator
PETA strikes again. Unfortunately for them I don't see anything wrong with using the croc skin. Why? Because there is a wonderful little restaurant in my city that serves croc meat, and its freakin' delicious. So why waste the skin of something that qualifies as food as long as it's not endangered. If you're going to kill an animal for food, don't waste its skin. Besides, its not like the crocodile hasn't gotten us back a bit by munching on some humans.
Aim more for dolphin and whale hunting.

Not a way to attract a boyfriend...

I'm not sure if it's clear in any country. (disrupting people, disrupting business, generally being a nuisance, etc.)
Down at Kasumigaseki there are folks protesting daily without causing much disruption. Why don't they go there? Otherwise, are they any different from people promotging religion, cheap golf clubs, or personality tests?
nath
If a demonstration is legal or not depends if it is scheduled with the police in which case the police will protect them.
Personally not a fan of Peta and why do the protest in Japan and NOT outside their Headquarters as their products are sold globally.
Don't know many people that can afford the real products another reason why pirate copies are thriving here and overseas.
wtfjapan
Not a way to attract a boyfriend... oh i dont know, with crocodile skin like that id be her boyfriend for a night

I wear fur, leather, aligator products and eat from all of the above too. I disagree with Peta. I just ate aligator for lunch in Florida. It is a custom, and they have no right to interfere.
HonestDictator
It's not a custom lol. Someone somewhere along the line in Florida wondered if they could eat the gator they killed (because they are dangerous when they're hungry) , and when they found out they could it became another animal on the list of edible meats.
I would agree with if the crocs were only being killed for their skin or if they're too few in number. But since that is not the case, then PETA has no right to bother folks about it.

They don't know how apathetic this society is. Infantile too I might add.
The best thing to come out of this is an idea for someone's Halloween costume. The Japanese girls probably thought she was Gamora from Guardians of the Galaxy.
Can I get your "sign"?
commanteer
Yes, they should be more like American women, who only buy European fashion brands when they can't find an American brand.....oh, wait...
Jason Lovelace
Still tryin' to figure out what the girl in green is supposed to be: an ear of corn? a cross between She-Hulk and Spidergirl? someone wearing gator/croc skin?
