Mt Fuji is seen against the backdrop at the Fuji Shiba-sakura Festival which runs until May 27. Around 800,000 flowers of 10 different varieties carpet the festival site which lies three kilometers south of Lake Motosuko in the Fuji Five Lakes region, Yamanashi Prefecture.

Most of the flower-blooming events this year were much earlier than in other years because of an unusual warmth in the months prior to these events. No Fuji watching, no phlox-moss, and Hanami season was weeks early.

Don't bother, all the flowers are now gone and the zillion customers have lethal selfie sticks.
