Dolls are lined up on the steps at Tomisakijinja shrine in Katsuura, Chiba Prefecture, as part of the Katsuura Big Doll Festival, to celebrate Hina Matsuri. Each year on March 3, Hina Matsuri (雛祭り) is celebrated to pray for young girls’ growth and happiness. Families with daughters usually arrange hina-ningyo dolls in traditional Heian court attire on a five or seven-tiered platform covered with a red carpet (hina dan 雛壇). The dolls will be displayed until March 3.

The Hina Festival is enjoyable. We have a local one in a seaport.
Elvis is here
Got the dolls out over the weekend. Love the ちらし寿司。Mrs Elvis does a good spread. Nice with a bottle of rosé.

Happy Hina Matsuri festivities. May every girl child be blessed with good health, happiness, a happy present and a bright future.
Fighto!
Absolutely fabulous! Japan certainly pulls out all stops when it comes to festivals - and the extraordinary displays and festivities of the Hinamatsuri are no exception.
I bid all children in Japan - and the world over - the very best for a long, happy life.

I hope it doesn't rain on them. Mine stays in its glass case in my home office.

Doesn't "jinja" mean "shrine?" So it should be either Tomisaki jinja or Tomisaki shrine, not the bastardized version written above
