Good for her, although it looks like she is about to punch him if he get the pinning wrong

Damn, she can order me around anytime.

She looks frail.

If she can carry 60kgs, I can carry 100kgs then.

Good if it is her passion but beyond enemy lines, itwon't be soft for women.

60 kilos is quite heavy for its weight.

Very apt name.

And you base your assessment of her stamina on a photo? Or have you actually gone on training exercises with her?

After 23 years in the US Marines, twice on combat tours, it's my humble opinion there are plenty of women who can do just as well as the average grunt in the field.

And yes, humility is a relative word when talking to a Marine.

Good on you Sgt. May you and your fellow soldiers never have to prove your skills in actual combat and may you succeed with honor if you do.

He's probably one of those guys who would be thrown about by Abe, Uta and then ask what happened.

Should he be touching that area?

Would it have been more appropriate to have a women officer pin that on her chest / breast area???

Japan have to open up. Congratulations but too late, only one ???.

No, it's his job, and he's a professional, just like doctors are.

You simply have to ask your wife/partner to join you on a building site.

Geez....Have you seen the average man these days? You take any random man on the street, take him to a building site and he won't see the end of the day.

Yes man and woman are not physically equal, then again, all men are absolutely not physically equal, so...

I have some friends (male) that are as small and big as her.

Those comparison are just ridiculous. The dude has 25 years of exp as a marine, he has probably seen women in action and during training, but still you can't believe what he says or try to even imagine he may be right ?

60 kilograms? That is a lot of weight.

If women were the right choice, you would have seen plenty during WWII or main wars.

Soft wars were you get tours is not war.

She is surely a tough soldier but my opinion is that the day you get caught, the consequences won't be the same...

You why women are now selected in army? it is because they aren't many men that volunteers, that is all.

I have no issue when it is about command but stamina and endurance, on large average the weight is important.

Again, if no building site workers, get to know why.

english aspyrgend:

It is only an ingrained cultural norm that has kept women out of combat.

Ingrained cultural norms that are very much based on simple biology. Males are expendable for the survival of a group; women are not.

The Romans faced Celtic female warriors and the Anglo-Saxons and other Germanic tribes had female warriors.

In rare and exceptional circumstances? Sure. If you are saying that was normal, please provide a reference.

So to all of you claiming she looks weak or won't be able to keep up with the men, did you all miss the part of the article that clearly said female paratroopers have to meet the same physical standards as males? She had to carry as much weight and do the same tasks as her male counterparts. She met the same standards. She earned the position.

If she can carry 60kgs, I can carry 100kgs then.

99% of men would struggle to hike with 60kg weight. Your claim above is about as silly as it gets - anyone who’s done a 60kg trek respects anyone who can do a 60kg trek. I seriously doubt you have ever done so, nor could.

The Japanese news had more details of her background. She was previously a medic and physical trainer at the SDF Sport Academy, you know, that place that produces Judo, wrestling, and biathlon medalists. So I wouldn’t doubt her physical prowess.

Good for her, good for Japan. Anyone doubting the strength and fitness of Japanese women, and ability to hike the with a 60kg pack, I invite you to step into a Japanese gym or fitness club. The women are usually the ones throwing weights around. Also, look at Japanese women in judo, wrestling and with weightlifting. Yes, built close to the ground, but bulging muscles all around!

Japan needs a much bigger military, so why not recruit women for the combat roles.
