Horrible. How anybody chooses to live in such a concrete jungle is beyond me.

Add to that the flight paths above, and the Underground below, not to mention, they haven't banned cars and trucks, which in most cases are still, "combustion type", and you get a feel for the smelly hit energy load, added of course to solar radiation, no wonder they have their doubts about the temperature of the Marathon Event, at the Olympics 2020.

Badmouth all you want:

"Tokyo named the greenest city in Asia"

So what are the "purists" going to say about the rest then?

Isn't Tokyo the largest city on Earth, population and size wise? I'd love to visit there someday but I'd need some guidance since I can't read the language and the people there drive on the 'wrong' side of the road.

Greenest or not, since Japan is a democracy I'd much rather live in Tokyo than say Singapore which is a totalitarian dystopian nightmare city-state with a disgustingly corrupt regime and a sorry human rights record. Same goes for Beijing, Hong Kong, Ho Chi Minh City, Yangon. Warts and all, that's probably 'where the action is' and you don't have to worry about getting arrested and beat up by police over some  trivial action.

I lived in this supposed hell for eight years and can truthfully say they were the greatest years of my life.♥♥♥

So many negative Nancy's on this site. I think Tokyo is beautiful. Yes it can get tiresome with the lack of nature if you're staying there for months, but that's what parks are for.

"Tokyo named the greenest city in Asia"

47% of Singapore is public green space whereas 7.5% of Tokyo is, so that is a whacko assertion or finding.

i would even question that tokyo's number is that high, since the biggest central areas like the Imperial Palace and the Akasaka grounds are mostly off limits to "the public."

First of all, that's a story from 2011 evaluating 2009 data.

Second of all, the term 'greenest' as is used in the linked article has little to do with percentage of green space, but is more about the usage of 'green' tech within the city. For example, since so much of Tokyo was at the time powered by nuclear power, it was 'greener' than many other cities since it didn't create as much CO2 in its electricity bid.

So again, it has nothing to do with Tokyo being a concrete hell.

Is this one good enough for you?

2011 or 2017 Tokyo still wins.

See my previous post. 'Green space' doesn't mean much when you're in a totalitarian nation with a brainwash ideology where people get jailed and/or beat up for even stepping on the grass. That's a dystopian nightmare, the fodder of several sci-fi movies.

A hi-tech 'concrete and steel' megalopolis with a cleaner, greener environment. Metro system and all. And Tokyo is still the largest city on planet Earth at that. Tokyo sounds like an exciting city to visit. What's so wrong with that?
