Look at those... round... juicy.. necks! I'm sorry, I was in beef mode. Such supple stout shoulders... drool and those...round firm slobber shanks. Coming soon to a dinner plate near you!

Domo (ferocious) !

Poor bulls. Why do we humans have to find entertainment in others suffering??

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ole!

Yukiko - This is what bulls do. It's natural for them. They would do this out in the wild as well.

'This is what bulls do' huh? Shows how much you know ... These bulls are half whacked with sake for your information. I'd go further and guess there are a few additives in the mix as well. This is well known and allowed in the want for a better word, "sport". The 'seki' or attendants egging the poor buggers on, often have a bottle of the stuff on hand. I know, I've watched this a few time in Kochi. This what bulls do ... such blithe ignornace.

Nomination for the Qoute of the day: "This is what bulls do, it's natural."

nutsagain get over yourself its just bulls wrestling, they dont get a sword thrust thru their shoulder blades on completion,I've seen it too,the biggest injury their likely to get is a torn hammy.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

stromqueen: A little lesson on nomenclature, bulls don't 'wrestle' they gouge, crack heads and charge with shochu and cheap sake fueled fury. If you'd seen enough you'd have understood that. So yes, thanks to your brilliant analysis of predicament, I'm now 'over myself'. A torn hammy, huh? Another candidate for dumb quote of the day ...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

As I said no injuries..you make it sound like its an action-fest when in reality they stand head to head in a battle of strength and stamina for an interminably long boring period.look at the picture, see anything other than boredom ?Note the children in attendance,Mummys bought them here to watch animal heads being cracked open and their eyes gouged...total exaggeration from nuttsy

Bulls gouge (fight) in the wild which is fair enough. I'm sure we can all accept that...

But making them do it for purely entertainment purposes is very sad & sick.

Japan and animal welfare... Pathetic

Good on the Catalans for getting rid of cruel and pointless games for human pleasure. So what if bulls do this in nature? If they do do it, then they'll do it in their own time and in their own place. I have no sympathy for people involved in these affairs and who are gored by the bulls.

ebisen:

it is far less cruel than killing and eating them

So you're telling me if cows or bulls are left to graze on the pastures for the whole of their lives and are then killed in a split second, this would be more cruel than day-in-day-out bullfighting? No, I don't agree with factory farming either, but then again, I'm vegetarian.

Puckey2 -

So you're telling me if cows or bulls are left to graze on the pastures for the whole of their lives and are then killed in a split second, this would be more cruel than day-in-day-out bullfighting?

you really have no idea don't you!?! I recommend you the movie "Our daily bread" (in Japanese "命の食べ方"). I admit I had no idea myself but this was an eye opener. 99% of the beef reaching the consumer's plates never sees any pasture and green grass...

Also if you would have to choose between a punch in you face once or twice a year or getting "humanely" killed in an instant what would you choose?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

We don't just put animals in the ring and let them battle it out, humans also go in the ring and battle it out for entertainment, how different is this? We got K-1, UFC, etc...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I don't see the Japanese being nominated for animal lover awards in the near future.

Debucho; I also don't see just about any race being nominated for animal lover awards in the future. The human race as a whole is cruel. Every country has cruelty to animals in their culture. Whether it be forcing bulls (or dogs and chickens) to fight, animals to perform in circuses and marine parks, factory farming, force-feeding animals for food, or keeping animals locked up in cages; it is all cruel. It is unfortunate that our so-called intelligence makes us also the most dangerous and brutal creatures on the planet.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

JA Cruise Yes, you are correct, it's exactly the same. So let's just pretend we don't know that the UFC fighters have a choice, and forget about the conditions the bulls are kept in everyday, an ignore the beatings and torture, etc etc, and yes, you are correct, they are exactly the same. So on that logic, how about we have a new sport, where we put bulls in the ring against K-1 fighters. Now that would be entertainment! And to make it real entertainment, if the bulls win, they get to be freed, live in a field for the rest of their life, with grass, water and shade.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Why are they doing this? Is it a local tradition? Betting?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Well said Hotbox08!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Not as exciting as a cock fight, but worth watching if you get the chance.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Has anybody informed PETA of this?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'd like to see nutsagain give us some proof that bulls don't do this in the wild.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

In the wild? Bulls are creatures on farms, Sarge. You know those big fields with fences around 'em? They don't "do this in the wild" because they're livestock for your dinner or procreation. These bulls are for fun ... For dimwits who like to see a bit of agro and place a few bets (which people certainly do). If bulls were to ever fight 'in the wild' as you so charmingly put it, it would be over the access to a female not for Japanese country bumkins' afternoon's entertainment.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

They certainly did so on my family's cattle ranch and we didn't have any shochu or sake around those parts.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sarge: Can you give some proof that the bulls wants to fight with each other?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@ulysses-Can you give some proof that the bulls don't want to fight with each other?

Here it comes. It's also a tradidtion in Okinawa to have bull fights. Now, like the Cove, are we going to get foriengners trying to change our ways and tradiditions. If you don't like it, don't watch. If you enjoy it, sit back and enjoy and take it for what it is. How about worrying about what goes on in your own country first.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Well OK, so it's a bull against a bull, not a bull against a pack of men in sissy suits armed to the teeth with spears and swords, and both bulls will most likely come out of the fight with nothing but their pride hurt. So it's heaps 'better' than bull-baiting Spanish-style.

But I think you have to be a very 'special' kind of person to get pleasure out of watching two animals trying to hurt each other, whether they're bulls, dogs, cocks, lions, christians or whatever.

According to this article - http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/us_japan_bulls - the bloke at the back whose job it is to stop the fight before either bull gets hurt is more likely to come a cropper than the bulls are.

"I can't imagine bloodshed in our ring," said Haruji Matsui, a bullfighting veteran from the tiny village of Yamakoshi in Niigata,... "We grew up with them sharing the same earthen floor."

"Not only is it just here that we end matches with draws, but also unlike in other parts of Japan, we don't make bets."

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Betting on any sports in Japan is illegal. Betting on bullfights in Japan is normal. It goes on behind the scenes with discrete loan sharks around the ring quietly offer loans for bets. Often they're women and that's a fact. A part of human nature? Part of yours maybe but not mine ... We're supposed to evolve not devolve.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Zenny - It's totally alien to my nature, and to the nature of most of the people around me. Granted, most of the people around me get pleasure out of tearing animal flesh to pieces with their teeth.

Maybe that's the fault line that's going to decide whether we evolve into Eloi or Morlocks.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Hopefully we don't become sleestaks :0

0 ( +0 / -0 )

cleo.

Good reference, myself choosing Morlock. Don't want to end up as someone bred for food consumption. Lets face it that is what the Eloi are bred "cattle".

0 ( +0 / -0 )

For all you critics see for yourself on youtube..contrary to what some have said here the animals are in prime athletic shape and couldnt be more gentle with each other,as I said its a contest of strength, stamina and courage,I think 'fight' is a poor description, its a contest..and a boring spectacle at that

Have a look at the yokels in the crowd watching! I think I can vaguely see one of 'em with 6 fingers! yiihaaa!

Did you actually read what I wrote??? I said IF. IF! I'm well aware of how most food animals are kept. If you'd read everything I wrote, you'd have known I just mentioned factory farming. I didn't become a vegetarian because I thought it was cool to have something in common with Pamela Anderson. And why are you so worried about cows never seeing any pasture?

Also if you would have to choose between a punch in you face once or twice a year or getting "humanely" killed in an instant what would you choose?

So are you saying that if you whack your pet dog in the face with a plank of wood, you'd get away with it by saying that other dogs suffer a life of misery in the hands of abusers? What you're trying to do is justify bullfighting and other forms of 'entertainment' by saying that other animals are treated worse. Sorry, but that sort of argument just doesn't wash with me.

I suggest you read people's posts properly.

you really have no idea don't you!?!

...and write properly!!!

The winner gets the chance to make little bulls

I live in cattle country of the Texas Panhandle and bulls are for breeding. The only time bulls have "Push & Shove" is over a female.
