A fan yawns as he watches the match between Kei Nishikori of Japan (seeded 10th), and Milos Raonic of Canada (seeded 5th), during the fourth round of the 2014 U.S. Open tennis tournament in New York on Tuesday morning. The match, which started late Monday, was tied at two sets each at 1 a.m. Nishikori finally prevailed, 4-6, 7-6 (7/4), 6-7 (6/8), 7-5, 6-4, to reach the quarterfinals. See story here.

Seems like a cracking match - 2 sets all at present - such a shame the atmosphere must resemble a ghost-town. Can Mr.Nishikori win and then go on to hold that silverware aloft? Lets all cross our fingers ...

Nishikori won in a marathon 5 sets around 3am!!

Thanks cornbread. I checked the US Open website stats, it looks like Nishikori lost in most statistics except for unforced errors. He only had 40 odd against his name whereas Raonic clocked up 70 odd. Let's see what he can do in the quarters.

Kudos to both, and it's a shame the game went on to that time only to have so few watching. Both are superb players, and I hope Nishikori can go even further.

Over 4 hours game in the middle of the night while tomorrow is a work day, I will not doubted some people left a bit early last night. However, this picture with empty seats is nothing you can use to describe last night's game. It can only represent the top and last 15 rows of seats within a 22,000 seated stadium at 2 o'clock in the morning.
I'm a New Yorker and I was in the stadium last night watched the whole game. It's one of the most excited game I've ever seen in USOPEN 2014. Nishikori played soooo well last night. He was a bit behind at the 1st set but he came back without giving up. Nishikori pushed Raonic all over the court, finishing off the match with an easy volley after 4 hours, 19 minutes. The whole game was so excited till the last serve and all the crowd stand up for him. Go Nishikori!! You have a great future!!
