Seems canned beers are more popular than bottles in Japan? Never been a fan of cans (for beer).

@goldorak

They sell bottled beer here and there but only the big bottles (0.5 lt?) the ones they use in izakaya's for letting salarimen poor beer for their senpais. Oh and you can still find Corona in glass bottles here and there. I miss bottled beer too though.

I usually drink canned chuhai. But if you twist my arm, yes, I'm up for it for a switch. Bottoms up!

The big bottles are 660ml. There are also midium size(500ml) and small size(344ml) bottles as well.They sell them at you local liquor store. The bottles collects a deposit of 5yen per bottle which is the reason why you don't usually find them at supers.

Yeah, I see the small bottles, sometimes smaller than a can, at he combini all the time. But cans are by far more popular.

Can see why beer sales are slumping. Those pre-mix Strong drinks at 150yen and 9%... it's like twice the alcohol at half the price.

Beer o'clock on my watch!!!

The reason Japanese beer is so expensive is the HUGE tax. Japanese lawmakers are not great beer drinkers, so the tax on whisky is low. In Okinawa there are a couple of reasonably priced and quite drinkable beers made by Orion. Splash Beat, which is not beer and has nothing to do with either hops or malt, but is tasty and their Session Beer in a purple can, which is surprisingly good for a sub-200 yen beer.

Anyone know where you can buy chuhai in England? I love the stuff. I used to decant the stuff from its can to a Pet bottle so I could drink it on the train on the way home from work without looking like a complete alky. Which I guess I must be, to do that.

And btw, if you're stuck in the UK, you can get three 660ml bottles of Asahi at T*sco for a fiver right now!

The day I drink,My style of drinking is I start with one can of Asahi Dry, then I go for a few drinks of Shochu.I can't stand Happoshu and recently so called cheap beers. BTW today was Bins/Cans garbage day,what I noticed there was hardly any real beer cans.
