Wow! If more people danced...

Obviously, he has no opinion regarding Putin's war against Ukraine. Can't fault him for that because he's doing what he wants to do and I doubt that he really gives a damn about anything political. Many performance artists and athletes are like that. Money and fleeting fame are all that matters to people like that.
Go ahead, vote me down, but if you do, consider this - I had a friend (yes, 'had') who was raped and shot in the head on Feb 25 in Bucha. I've got a grudge and I'm not afraid of saying so.

Well, this is what democracy is. Government cannot force athlete or citizens to not take part in events that hold meaning to their lives.

A cultural ambassador?
But even if so, he shouldn't have attended.
This gives Putin again more "ammo" to show that sanctions sometimes don't work.

So much for solidarity against Russia. What price fame and glory?

He's lived in Russia for nearly a decade.

Aside from the controversy of appearing in Russia during this war, how did he do?
Mr Kipling
Japan put sanctions on an embarrassing 1.1% of goods it gets from Russia. But some expect a ballet dancer should not dance in Russia? If he didn't do you really think it would make any difference?
Bans and sanctions only work if they hurt the country sanctioned. If they only harm you or your economy, then sanctions and bans are just a sad joke.

Derby, agree mate. It’s just “bad form” to smile away and put it here in everyone’s faces.
No offense to our boy Terada-san here
but mayhaps he should have sat this one out.

Not a good look. Shows balls to support Moscow with any event there now.
Derby
“Bad Form” is a better title here for this controversial event in my opinion.
We should continue to support the arts and athleticism as they are last bastions of self expression. However, we should by no means support any of these events taking place in countries waging war on neighbors and suppressing individual freedoms.
Please stop this senseless war!
