She's a little sweetheart and I hope there aren't any negative memories of this sad situation when she grows older.

A nice smile in the AM! I cannot imagine my 6-year-old daughter being in the same shoes without crying everyday.

This is the photo you use to get the adoption and foster kid program going or at least up to speed (not sure what the number of kids who lost both parents yet?). Nice job Reuters.

It's wonderful to have children helping in these evacuee centers. I'm sure she and her family are evacuees on the island too, so it gives her something to do. I saw on NHK the other night how children were helping at another evacuee center, by giving back rubs and shoulder massages to the elderly people. Really nice to see.

Innocence at its best! It would bring a smile to my face to get served by this little angel.

But I do have some concerns about what she is carrying. Onigiri and bread? Where is all the food that is getting sent in? Breaks my heart to know that they are still receiving only bread and rice...

A very touching photo, indeed!

She has delivered three virtues - age is not a matter, "I know how to do my job", "Look at me, you can see spring flowers blossoming".

Onigiri and bread?

Well, in fairness - that is what Japanese kids eat for lunch.

Enough of the devastation pics, and more of these please.

Very cute, and a great message that everyone can help out.

If everyone in Japan contributed as much as this little girl, the victims would be in much better shape by now. My office seems to be carrying on as if nothing happened...

I personally am heading up to the isolated villages around Ishinomaki (Miyagi) for a week with an aid agency.

So cute with her pigtails ! She's got such a lovely smile ! Striving to be happy whatever the circumstances. Thanks for this touching pix which conveys the Japanese 'gambaru' spirit.

What a sweet-heart. She has no idea the help she is giving, of course, but nonetheless she is there and helping.

Cute kid. She seems to be coping with one of life's more difficult lessons rather well. Her parents should be proud.

That's why i have high hopes for this country! With people like Ayumi, Japan can reach a better future!

JT, this and the Karate kid man photos in front of the magnolia tree are hands down the BEST PHOTOS i have seen since the first time i've visited JT years ago. Well done!!!

Japanese people are incredibly disciplined, considering the fact that people are still following orders and most people are helping out. I wonder how badly Americans will response to natural disasters, especially those living in the cities. :(
