Ben Stiller

Ben Stiller and stand-up comedian Lou Oshiba chat to the media during a promotional event for Stiller's new movie "Tropic Thunder" in Tokyo on Thursday. The bewildered Stiller had a hard time getting a word in as Oshiba tried to teach him "Lou language." Stiller, who turns 43 on Nov 30, said he enjoyed making fun of egomaniacal producers, clueless agents and pampered movie stars in "Tropic Thunder" which opens in Japan on Saturday.

Now Ben can make a movie that pokes fun at idiot Japanese comedians

Lou Oshiba is one Japanese comedian I actually find funny on occasion. It is probably because of this talent that he doesn't appear as much on TV as he used to.

I doubt Stiller appreciated being upstaged after the long flight from LA. Lou Oshiba doesn't even appear to be in the movie.

He and Deniro were great in Meet the Parents.

It's funny that the movie distributor goes to all the trouble and expense to bring the star to Japan and then let Japanese "talents" hog the attention at a press conference. It's one thing if a babe like Ebi-chan gives flowers and then flitters off, but letting comedians do their thing defeats the purpose of the press conference. I'm sure Stiller's interpreter tried to explain to him what was going on but he probably was asking himself why he is here.

They're probably afraid that Japanese people won't recognise the actors, so they can at least laugh at some lame gag.

The only person more unfunny than Ben Stiller is Lou Oshiba. I find each time Aso speaks more hilarious than anything Oshiba has done.

It is strange how they have to bring in someone Japanese to take centre-stage when they ship stars in from abroad. Is it that distributors here don't think people will recognize the Western actors and that the only chance to reach a "presumably shallow" audience is to have a Japanese personality there to do most of the talking, or maybe that they don't want people to know the western actors?

Have never understood it, but am sure the guy has given Stiller more material to use as he pokes fun at different aspects of society.

It's to get publicity. If talentless 'tarento xxxx' turns up to give flowers, its get reported on in the weekly gossip mags. Job done.

"Tropic Thunder was awesome"

"it was so unfunny that I walked out"

Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks?

Nobody cares what Ben Stiller has to say here, at least not the expendable masses that buy the tickets. They shove out a moronic tool talent to attract the interest of the sheep so they will flock to the movie and pay. Ben doesnt care. Its all in his contract and part of the job. Japan is big big money. That is all it is. One big, fat, promotional exploitation.
