Bend it? Like the amount of makeup he is wearing?

Those tattoos look very classy--they are even on his neck--perhaps he's running out of space!

I have read that he is more popular in Japan than he is back home.

Vastly overrated. Never did anything of consequence at WC level. Defenders just muscled him out of the way. One of the reason England has not won WC since 1966.

I find it incomprehensible why the Beckhams have subjected their children to such a toxic brand of social media driven celebrity.

He does love it here.  He should buy a Japanese football club to add to his US franchise.

A face of no hope. Does he think England will win the trophy?

He's making a fortune with these appearances in Japan. Leveraging his star power makes good business sense, because that revenue flow is going to dry up sooner or later. Better to cash in now.

I have read that he is more popular in Japan than he is back home.

That's because their English isn't good enough for them to realize that this guy isn't exactly high IQ stuff. One of my other complaints (amongst others) is the fact that he feels a sense of entitlement and swore left right and centre when he wasn't given a knighthood. Yes, he does a lot of charity work, but you don't do it for awards.

I wonder whether he can visit onsens in Japan.

Check out why Christiano Ronaldo doesn't have tattoos.

It's been long known that bands which have long since been dead in their home countries can come and flourish in Japan. It's no different with Beckham.

Vastly overrated."

Have to agree. In addition to being one of the slowest players ever to play the game, his lone skill seemed to be crossing the ball which he was marginally good at.

Go away Beckham, you vapid, tatted-up waste of space.

Please refrain from using language like this. It adds nothing to the discussion and only reflects badly on yourself.

Not that I'm some fan or anything, but really need to set some posters straight here.

6 Premier League Titles.

1 Champions League title.

2 FA Cup wins.

1 La Liga title.

1 France title.

No to mention Real player of the year, Ballon D'Or runner-up, putting England into the 2002 World Cup with one free kick, MLS title etc.

Beckham (and his wife) come from working-class backgrounds and have worked hard to get where they are today. Good luck to him.

Zurc, which English player has done anything of consequence bar 1970 or Italia 90? Beckham is not the reason why England have not won the World Cup since 66. As I have already mentioned he actually put England into the 2002 finals. In the 2002 tournament itself he went a long way to knocking Argentina out of the group stages with his performance and penalty in Sapporo.

The bloke just used to play football, and very good he was too. So why the vitriol? It's not as if he puts kids in cages or starves the NHS of money or stuff like that. Just used to play football. Save your Two Minutes Hate for those who deserve it.

In addition to the achievements listed by Tigers above, my mum liked him. She said he came across as a nice boy. She didn't say that about everyone.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Sure he's not one of the greatest players to have played the game by any stretch, but he was quite good, and more importantly he was an extremely popular player and used that fame during and after his playing career to do a lot of good and serve as one hell of an ambassador for the sport, especially in the U.S. The vitriol from some posters above is undeserved.

I don't begrudge a penny/cent of Victoria and David Beckham wealth.

Both have earned and worked tirelessly. So to question spitefully there opulent lifestyle is envy and unjustified.

I question, the constant need for the Beckham brand/ business model to encroach into every nook and cranny of his kids private life, even the heart-warming moment his son, Brooklyn surprising Father on his Birthday.

All saved for prosperity, to be then to be broadcast on social media.

I agree with the person who got the warning from the moderator.

The answer for why the Beckhams of the world need to be out in the spotlight at every chance they get, and always on a media blitz even with private moments most of us would prefer were private...fame & money. Nothing more, nothing less.

I Loved watching him play. To me, he was like what Cristiano Ronaldo is today, with less flamboyance. At any rate, best of wishes to him and his wife Victoria, and their children....
