The massed ranks of juryo-ranked sumo wrestlers attend a special practice session at the Kokugikan in Tokyo on Wednesday. The annual event is open to the public for free as part of the sport's ongoing attempts to attract more fans.

The upper level Makuuchi ranked Sumo wrestlers also had practice. I wished I had time to go there today.

Japan should popularise Sumo around the world and make a very serious effort to include it in the next Olympic games going to held in Japan.

I'm not sure if the sumo association would be interested to be honest. As large and skillful as some of these Japanese wrestlers might be, they are unlikely to be able to match the sheer obesity of competitors from other countries. I suppose you could have a seperation into many different weight classes but that would require scrapping the most basic rules of traditional Japanese sumo.

I love Sumo. I actually watched NHK TV here in the states when they started last year. Yes, Sumo certainly should be exported! It is a great sport.
