Kannon is not a Buddha but a Bodhisattva.

The sort of thing Japan does particularly well. A bit disappointed it doesn't have a 100m Titan or Totoro statue though. And Australia - how about a crowd-funded 100m Kylie?

Wanted to visit it the last time I was in Sendai, but got to the closest rail station and discovered the walk was a bit too far. And no taxis anywhere near the that really small station platform. But it's an impressive sight, that's for sure.

Absolutely hideous.

That's quite the surreal sight. And I thought the statuette of 观音 my folks had in the living room was big.
