I agree with it being a nice photo, but your use of the word heroic is incorrect.

I disagree. Heroic is used to describe showing bravery and being worthy of being look up to. The term fits here. The atheletes of the Parlympics are indeed heros.
As an aside, I am very pleased to see that the Paralympics are having such a great turnout in Brazil.
