@cadmium31680 He's Japanese! Removing his shoes is not just thoughtful, it's ingrained in his DNA! I would've been surprised if he left his shoes on.
@TrouserEnthusiast ditto!
actually removing shoes is not just for hygiene but also a sign to those outside that someone is onside. so they dont shut the door ya know! Even been in a bathroom here? They have you change into slippers so you leave the normal slippers outside so nobody walks in in you.
He actually has a little roll out tatami, as to why the shoes are off.
I imagine if the bus air-con was on, the engine would need to be idling and he would get a snoot full of monoxide - and possibly be fined by the police/his company.
Anyway, hats off and shoes off to my sweaty driver!
I wonder why he sleeps there, surely the airco and the seats in the bus must be more comfortable.
I am sure the passengers would complain if an ojisan driver was sleeping in their seats. These kinds of buses are reserved seating, usually to go to the airport or on scenic tours.
Actually, I would be so bold as to suggest that the engine is indeed running, along with the air con, but that is the most comfortable place he can find for his nicotine fix.
I can feel like the driver. Yes, there's aircon inside, but on a nice sunny day with a slight breeze, some shade and a great place to lay is more relaxing. I'm in the hammock now!

He's so thoughtful to remove his shoes. Don't want to get the compartment dirty!

Not just hygiene.

@debucho learned another thing. :)

Perfect utilization of space.

Just don't do it while driving.

@Debucho
Another advantage is you're not walking around with the same slippers you used to stand on the potentially dirty toilet floor. Accidents happen.
Actually with a bit of breeze, he's picked the best spot unless he goes inside and turns on the aircon.

@Henry Geßner
I approve of it and do the same.

At Least he's not sitting in an empty bus IDLING away, killing our air waiting for his tour group etc to come back an hour or two later.

Ironic that the top story on JT (at the time of me writing this) was about record number of heat stroke victims.

It does not look like the bus engine is idling for hours for air conditioner as no driver is sitting on the driver's seat and the bus must be empty.

During the "Bubble Economy" these guys had more pride. They'd make sure their vehicles were nice and shiny.

I love how people in Japan can take 40 winks anywhere and anytime.

Wow....this looks like the 1LDK that I had as my first apartment here in Tokyo.

If he's not breaking any rules let him be. Plus I see an upside, a rested driver is a safer driver.

Looking at this guy is making me feel sleepy

Still, better that fumigating the bus...

Great picture! Probably breezier in there than in the bus cabin.
