Who does it really hurt if they don't go to the Olympics? Will anyone really care afterwards? The only people that will remember South Korea boycotting the Olympics will be the South Korean athletes that trained for years and missed their opportunity to compete.

Is this actually about the environment or is it just another excuse for South Koreans to protest against anything Japanese?

The radioactive symbol being on the signs is an indication it's about the environment but I had the same thought. Still do.

I wonder. Did Japan make any attemption to boycott the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics? Of course not, Japan knows better! Stop this nonsense right away South Korea, this is just unecessary!

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Why outside the Japanese embassy? Isn't there a sporting authority or institute in SK that would be better to focus their attention on?

7 ( +8 / -1 )

So they have been been visiting Japan in the millions since 3.11 and now they are concerned about radiation? LoL, it's there loss if they boycott, the athletes who get their medals will be grateful...

Do any of these pure environmentalists remember they are living on the same tiny peninsula where a MOUNTAIN HAD COLLAPSED FROM REPEATED HYDROGEN BOMB TESTING a few short years ago?

If playing the victim were an Olympic sport, South Korea would sweep the medals...

Actually this kind of protest has nothing to do with environmental issues. In fact, before Tokyo was chosen to held the Olympic Games, Korea and China opposed with an excuse that "Japan should care about the past and by not doing it Japan would show lack of humanity" what is joke considering the fact that both countries never apologized to their victims(Vietnam, Tibetan, and so on).

This protest is the same one what we have seen recently. In other words, it been orchestrated by K government. None of those protesters are worry about the world. They just care about their pride and nothing else.

Absolutely absurd

It seems to me S Koreans would have to boycott 2020 Tokyo Olympics for sure as long as they say "Don't buy Japanese products and Don't go to Japan". A good thing is more Japanese people (who couldn't get tickets) and more foreign sightseers (who don't have any) can buy more tickets at the entrances if Koreans don't come.

Bu ha ha You beat me to it. Japan! Boycott Tokyo Olympics! Japan you must boycott Tokyo Olympics!!

this Is really hurt me when South Korea boycott to Japan, but anyway if South Korea will not coming to Olympic in tokyo who cares? It shame on South Korea you’re asking compensation but if in this world everbody ask war compensation this world will be no peace ( African will ask compensation to western (esclavage) They worked for free , labor work more than Koreans

A picture of 15 people with a lot of 'enthusiasm' to represent South Korea's view? I don't think most Koreans would hold to this. Secondly, Japan is S.Korea's closest neighbour (other than N. Korea, Russia and China which I can't see any trade agreements going well with). Japan imports a ridiculous amount of Korean cosmetics, with 125,000,000+ people, it's going to be a massive problem (for Korea) if Japan started boycotting Korean products.

If anything Japan and Korea need to be forming a stronger bond due to what's been happening in Hong Kong and the Chinese/ Russian and American powerhouses swinging their balls around in other countries.

America doesn't care that the 2 countries they're occupying 'defending' are fighting. If anything Trump is happy, even mocking their accents in his latest interview. They're the Switzerland in this little war.

Olympics are supposed to be a symbol of peace and brotherhood/ sisterhood brought about by sports down to an individual level. Any nation that boycotts such a special event, ridding their athletes of the opportunity and making them feel guilty for even participating is not a government that I would want to support.

SK citizens still in need of free-cash

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Let them boycott it. They've already whipped themselves into a frenzy, better to let them be frenzied by themselves at home if that's what they want.

It’s disgusting to see a handful of individuals mixing up sports with politics, isn’t it. What if a government itself is mixing up politics with trades and business that affects private companies and their employees? That’s what Abe administration is doing right now affecting BOTH Korean and Japanese private companies. There is no winner when he start like this. I am Korean- Canadian, and I support and helping Fukushima thrive again, but do you see its original residents or any local resident looking to coming back, send their children and raise family there? I would feel okay for a couple of days visit, but if it pose health risk, they should really have people live their or market them as safe place unless they can show 100% proof and disclose/verify that it’s safe to live not to the standards that are substantially lowered by ABE administration but to the standard that really affects people’s health.

What ticked off Abe was SK supreme court’s ruling that the country’s government’s deal b/w SK and Japan cannot destroy individual person’s right or entitlement to a claim against other private companies. In this case, Mitsubishi hired a worker and have not paid to the standard nor had valid contract or agreement for compensation for the worker. Thus, the worker, private person is suing the private company. SC supreme court ruled that both governments cannot interfere a claim or law suit b/w private person and private company. It’s simple and agreed by reasonable lawmakers of both countries.

It’s a law suite between a private worker and a private company in SK.

SK is Boycotting EVERYTHING Japan because of ABE not because of hate towards the Japanese people. Plus SK is already in trouble because ABE blocked Japanese exports of some chemicals, KEY to SK's semiconductor industry. Why, because SK courts ruled that Japanese companies must pay reparation to the SURVIVING Koreans that were forced into slave labor by said companies. Before you jump the gun and assume all SK's are just boycotting for no reason. There is a critical reason for boycott. And im not sure if this article is correct. Maybe some of them are environmentalists but everyone is protesting (practically )

Good way to speak up.
