Bikini-clad women operate a 3.6-meter-high custom-made female robot at the newly opened Robot Restaurant in Kabukicho in Tokyo's Shinjuku district. The lower half of each robot resembles the iconic Japanese character Gundam on wheels, while its curvaceous human-like upper body is clad in a futuristic gladiator outfit. They have blonde, brown or red hair with blue or green eyes. Each is controlled by two bikini-clad women, who perch in a high seat attached to the robot's stomach and control the facial features and legs using joysticks attached to the seats for the hour-long "Fighting Females" performance.

"The concept behind this restaurant is fighting, feisty females, and the robots are part of that theme," said the club's spokesman, who goes only by his last name, Watanabe. "Everything apart from the central component of the robots is made and assembled by us."

After a short intermission, in which visitors enjoy a drink and a bento boxed meal that come with the 4,000 yen admission, the women reappear in military-themed costumes and charge onto the stage maneuvering the robot-vehicles, which move up and down between the crowds.

By the end of the hour-long spectacle, the dancers are aboard a miniature airplane that zips overhead as American rock music blares over the speakers. One last dance routine involving fairy costumes and light sabres, and the audience is ushered out of the theater.

4,000 yen for a bento a "drink", probably non-alcoholic, just to get to watch bikini clad females play games?

Go watch some beach volleyball, now that's excitement!

Hope they have a well planned business model because this sounds like a novelty act that could potentially lose a lot of money.

@exile I am not sure how Bikini clad women riding giant robots could not be worth a look.

Matt: I'd rather have a bikini gal whisper that in my ear.

I always forget Japan has its very own PatPong.

What do you mean "just to watch bikini-clad females play games"?

"The concept behind this restaurant is fighting, feisty females, and the robots are part of that theme"

As they damn well should be.

Anything to make people forget how boring and unfulfilled their lives are.

This definitely won't last long, unless a LOT of tourists visit it just to see how crazy (and that doesn't always mean negative) places like this can be. I'd rather just go to a regular place... where bikini clad women wait on tables. haha. And sorry, the top parts of the robots do not look 'curvaceous, human-like' at all, though of course we cannot see them animated.

Just two words "Stu Pid".

Geez some people know how to waste money don't they???

What do you mean "just to watch bikini-clad females play games"?

What would you call it? Theater? They are just "running" around, titillating an otaku audience, and further promoting the sexual degradation of young women in Japan.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Well, I for one am interested.

"The concept behind this restaurant is fighting, feisty females,"

Who needs that when I've got it right in my own home?

6 ( +7 / -1 )

they keep wheeling those ugly robots all around shinjuku on a track...not the best advertisement cause it looks hideous. They should be wheeling the bikini girls....

Who needs that when I've got it right in my own home?

When should I come over?

As in I'd pay thrice that much for such titillation.

Oh well if you say so. Good to see your usual positive take on things.

" custom-made female robot "

I wonder what makes this robot "female". Only the dress?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Pretty neat IMHO.

Do they speak English ?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Looks like a pink ballerina outfit rather than a bikini.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Which one is the robot ? The blue or the padded bikini ?

I see the usual happy crowd are laying into another piece of fluff.

There is clearly a market for this type of cafe or they wouldn't have spent the money on creating it. Maybe a proportion of JT readers would prefer a smoky dive where they can swig brandy and moan about their woes.

Mostly I am wondering how badly the combination of all that neon and straining to see the ladies damages the eyes.

Far be it for me to diss robotic women. I just hope for them to be more practical and soft to the touch.

and further promoting the sexual degradation of young women in Japan.

Sounds like mindless repetition of a slogan with little to no thought behind it to me. I cannot tell you if I ever saw a woman "sexually degraded". Degraded sexually, yes, but not "sexually degraded". What does that even mean?

Some women have assets valuable to men. If they choose to cash in on those assets, so what? Its an option like any other, and they have many more.

@daijoboots - sorry, it's a private show.

Oh look, yet more weirdo Japanese men. There's a surprise.
