My wife, who is fiercely Japanese, dislikes hanami parties intensely and refuses to attend them. She also doesn't eat sushi.

The people in the picture are looking and pointing at empty branches. Why?

pretty sad when cherry blossoms is the best thing you can state about a country

Why? How does one person picking the thing they find best about a country, create a defined confirmation that the country is "sad"?

Seems to me that judgement is more sad than the comment being said. It says "you aren't allowed to have your opinion, and whatever mine is (unsaid), it's more valid".

Best thing about Japan hands down is the cherry blossoms.

I love Japan but the people are like sheep, press their on button and point them to the attraction and they flock there without really knowing why.

“12 days earlier than average”

I don’t want to spoil the party, but there will be less bugs around and the voice of the uguisu bird was very faint this year. So change is happening.

All those people just staring and taking pictures of undeveloped buds?

And everyone wearing boring colors as usual.

The worst part of culture here. When living abroad for work, I didn't miss this time at all.

My wife, who is fiercely Japanese, dislikes hanami parties intensely and refuses to attend them. She also doesn't eat sushi. Isn't it weird how some people are different from their national stereotype?

@zichi

Great Idea.

I went to Himeji Castle twice.

The cherry blossoms there are awesome.

Enjoy your trip!

This is one thing that I love about Japan, and the nice thing is that you can find beautiful scenery in every prefecture when it comes to cherry blossoms.

The blossom on that tree are not yet blooming. But tell people that it's blossim time and they'll swarm and point and say "kirei"

In the meantime, any number of other trees have been in full bloom for weeks, and nobody gives a t055.

I will never understand this refusal to enjoy any other kind of beauty than the one the Government announces you may look at and must enjoy at prescribed times, whether or not the blooms are actually there.

No blossoms in April any longer as the earth is warming. Down the road could have cherries in February at this warming rate.

My favorite place for Cherry Blossom is Naka Meguro、but because of crazy busy at work, I guess have no chance to go there.

I hope I will have a chance at least one evening.
