American actors Will Smith, left, and his son Jaden, 14, pose during a photo session with Japanese junior high school students at a news conference to promote their movie "After Earth" in Tokyo on Thursday. The children were given the opportunity to ask questions in English. "After Earth" opens in Japan on June 21.

Maybe Junior was astonished to learn Japanese young students speak English. Maybe Senior will suggest to make movies in Japan.

After earth will be release in USA on 5/31. Both Smiths are playing. 1,000 years after earth is crushed, or somehing like that. Just like other movies in USA. Sony is releasing in USA. This kind of movies are popular in USA. British has Dr. Who. (BBC series)

Does it matter what language they use? Giving JHS kids an opportunity to just meet with him is something these kids probably wont forget in a long time, but the audience here isn't JHS kids now is it?
Typically adults can figure things out for themselves without needing to be led around by their noses I would hope.

Don't get me wrong, I love his movies, but I lost my respect for him when I found out he has an "open" marriage. What kind of a role model does that make him?

That background appears to say アフター・アース or "afutaa aasu" not "aase". "Aasu" is closer to "Earth" than "aase" is considering ス is usually used to represent the "th" sound in katakana.

What would be so wrong to translate the title "After Earth" in Japanese? "After Arse" is just so silly, like "Calpis".

"The children were given the opportunity to ask questions in English. As opposed to what other language? I mean what's the point of adding this little bit of useless information? "
As opposed to Japanese and having to use a translator. It is an opportunity for the children to demonstrate their mastery of a foreign language, something which they are justifiably proud.

Well, they COULD have been asking the questions in Japanese to a translator who then relayed the question to the Smiths and vice versa. So I guess that bit of information wasn't as useless as you thought, huh?

Why couldn't it have just read, "The children were given the opportunity to ask them questions" which sounds so much better.

As is always the case at press conferences, the journalists asked questions in Japanese, which were then interpreted.
