SoftBank Corp Chief Executive Masayoshi Son, right, poses with the U.S. Ambassador to Japan Caroline Kennedy and external board member of Bloom Energy and former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, and SoftBank Corp's human-like robot named "pepper," during a ceremony to unveil Bloom Energy Server, a system to generate clean electricity by Solid oxide fuel cell, at its headquarters in Tokyo on Tuesday. SoftBank and Bloom Energy Japan, a joint venture by Bloom Energy and Softbank Corp, announced an installation of Bloom Energy Server, a system to generate clean electricity by Solid oxide fuel cell, at its headquarters. Son said the system supplies 14% of the electricity the company headquarters needs overall.

Assuming "pepper" is there to showcase Japan's technology prowess, why have it use a grayscale Kindle display straight out of 2007?

The robot is there to showcase Son.

Son is one big manipulator, I dont like him specially how he is using this robot to show to the ordinary people how Softbank " really " develop something, whilethe truth is, this is French robot . Softbank is using bad marketing, full of lies, and I dont trust that firm a bit.

So it's a French robot. What's the problem with that?

Wish someone could convince the former SOS to run for POTUS ! Would vote for him in a flash !

SOFTBANK is one of the companies that is seriously attempting to veer Japan away from its addiction to nuclear energy. Son has put his money into renewable energy not just paying lip service, so he has to be supported in his ventures.

Colin Powell seems to be trying to remember what dignity felt like.

At first glance I thought CP was Mr. Coffee, Tommy Lee Jones. At least that would have made sense. I think.

Colin Powell jump-started his military career by whitewashing the My Lai village massacre in Vietnam. He never had dignity - he was shameless climber like so many others in DC.

And yet this clean energy uses natural gas and emits significant amounts of CO2... I guess the 'clean hurdle' just gets dropped lower and lower so we can believe the hype.

Agree, Kurobune, but he will not unless someone asks him for the VP position. I have read his book and was very impressed about him.

I'm just wondering what insane amount of money they paid Powell to pose for this picture.

A bit of a tangent there Zichi.

I don't dismiss them Zichi, but I do require them to be reality checked: hence my note about the 'clean' energy source emitting significant amounts of CO2.
