Tom Cruise waves to fans upon his arrival with his wife Katie Holmes, top right, who is holding their daughter Suri, at Narita International Airport on Sunday night. Cruise is in Japan to promote his movie "Valkyrie." Fans gave Holmes stuffed animals for Suri, while Cruise signed autographs. The trio were taken by helicopter to their Tokyo hotel. On Thursday, Cruise -- who is immensely popular in Japan -- will join 40 fans on a specially chartered flight from Tokyo to Osaka, called the "Sky Cruise." "Valkyrie" opens in Japan on March 20.

Another Bomb Hits Japan

Cruise certainly knows how to cultivate his fan base. I remember when he was last here three years ago, he went on the bullet train to Osaka with about 250 fans. The chartered jet must be costing the movie distributor a fortune. I wonder if they'll get it back at the box office.
Anyway, kudos to Cruise. He certainly makes much more of an effort to interact with his fans than all the other stars who come to japan. They just have a press conference, show up on the red carpet and then disappear back to their hotels.

I wonder if Cruise knows what "Suri" means in Japanese.

his kid looks terrified.

Here can really see eye to eye with his fans. Little do they know that while they're busy looking at him, his daughter is working the crowd, lifting all their wallets.

"The trio were taken by helicopter to their Tokyo hotel"
Well, that's the least they could do for them after making them arrive at Narita instead of Haneda.

Sarge - Not many intl flights fly to Haneda, I doubt they had a choice.

I saw Valkyrie when I was home last Christmas. It tries to be suspenseful, but that's kind of hard when we already know how everything turned out. Its pretty interesting to see the details of the incident, but a Tom Cruise movie just doesn't seem the best forum for that. Don't get me wrong; I think he's a great movie star, and I usually like his movies. This one was too entertaining to have an informative feel, but too grounded in fact to be very entertaining. Maybe not worth 2000 yen.

i like how katie holmes is being ignored completely

tom cruise and his memory back to japan againt

Love the thinking -- the bullet train promotion worked well, so this time we'll simply do it on a chartered jet. Respectfully, Katie Holmes should be "ignored". In my opinion, she is no world class beauty, and a non-talent.

All very nice, but I wonder if the Cruise family were fingerprinted like common criminals. Welcome to Japan. Not a nice welcome. That said, it IS nice that he goes the extra mile for his Japanese fans.

Japan can have Tom Cruise. Katie Holmes looks like Michael Jackson in the photo. Even more perfect seeing that she is holding a kid.

Katie in the upper right of the picture, looking for an escape route.. not from the press but from Tom.

I like his confidence and the way he is admired by the journalists. Nice smile and very friendly to the fans. He is always in great sape, great toned body.
