"Defense?"

It seems to be understood that the US is ready for war.

kwatt-san,

It seems to be understood that the US is ready for war.

In spite of being late for the last two world wars, the U.S.A. is making completely sure they will be on time for the next one!

Yes, the US is ready for war!

Yes, the US is ready for war!

And when was the last defensive one? War mongering is the US's biggest industry. Defense is an industry not a state of preparedness. Panetta is a glorified salesman.

Bertie,

Better late than never for us Brits, especially in the second one, wouldn't you say? Or does that not fit in with your constant anti-American blabber.

In spite of being late for the last two world wars...

Yeah, well, the problem with the first of those is that it was a piece of Euro-trash war mongering that should have never happened. The tragedy of the first is that it set the stage for the second.

Now we're looking at China failing to learn from that history with respect to Japan throwing it's weight around in the early 1900s. The difference is that the USA is trying to stay fully engaged and, hopefully, keep the Chinese from going to war to secure resources ala Japan.

Best that the US stays involved. The way Japan and Korea are taking care of the alliance it looks like WWI. China looks like WWII. Without the US we'll get WWIII with nukes.

Better late than never for us Brits

The Battle of Britain is a handy lesson for the possible impending conflict. If the Chinese do not gain air superiority they cannot win. It all depends on the combat endurance of Chinese aircraft, aerial refueling and AWACS capabilities. These factors are not well known to us however, Japan's ability to operate anywhere within 300 NM out of Ishigaki will prove to be a formidable force alone even without any substantial help from the Americans.

Better late than never. Not to mention prior to the US entry into actual combat operations, materials FROM the United States being shipped across the Atlantic, at times with US Destroyer escorts helped Britain survive being completely cut off of materials.

All this trash talk about the United States and it's Military but when a nation like Japan gets into war who is the first nation they will go to for help? Of course the US Military...if your country would go to war it could not defend itself without the US Military, people only appreciate the US Military when it's to their advantage.
