The grey one's a terrier. They are vicious little beasts - my whippet is terrified of them.

I’d like to say feisty rather than vicious. My Jack Russells were well trained and disciplined but I couldn’t stop them trying to start fights with dogs three or four times their size. My friend has a Yorkie ( no idiotic ribbons - he gives it a crew cut in summer ) which likes a snarl at other dogs.

I love terriers but keep them on a short leash.

Face off? Hardly, more like they want to sniff and play.

My family have had two Jack Russells, both gentle, bouncy, friendly dogs who didn’t constantly want to start fights, but leathal in disposing of rats. It’s down to upbringing.

I didn’t say constantly. My Jacks were well trained, socialized and disciplined but they seemed to take exception to certain dogs. My sister would stop and talk to the owners of dogs they growled at or lunged for and they were always male dogs according to her. I’ve kept 5 other breeds, trained and socialized them, and didn’t have the same issues. I kept an English Bulldog and they aren’t shrinking violets.

No doubt my dogs thought the other one started it...

One of my most enjoyable days in Japan was during a stay in Kobe at the Meriken Park Oriental near the tower. When taking a walk through the park, we came upon a large group of dogs. It seems we stumbled upon a regular group of dog owners who would meet there every weekend and turn a small area of the park into their own dog park. This was years before moved here, and were missing our dogs who were back in the US while we were visiting.

Now, we meet dogs every day while walking our girls through the neighborhood. But, that day was such a pleasant surprise, as we were just going out for lunch in a tourist area during a vacation.
