they get their paws bleeding if they walk on the pavement

Those four paws are meant to be walked on. Walking on a bit of pavement isn't going to cause bleeding. If it does, the doggie needs to see a vet, there's something wrong with its little feet. I find that in fact dogs benefit from walking on hard surfaces - it wears their claws down naturally and eliminates the need to trim them. Most dogs hate having their claws cut. Hot pavements are a different matter, and have nothing to do with whether the dog is tiny or has feet the size of dinner plates. The pavement probably is too hot for him to walk on if it's the time of day when people are out and about in Ikebukuro. I'm getting up at the crack of dawn these days to take my guy out before the pavements start to warm up. Then he spends the rest of the day crashed out until it gets cooler again in the evening.

The little guy in the photo probably doesn't have the stamina to walk too far, he's only tiny. So carrying him isn't so strange. And riding atop the bag is probably cooler and more comfortable for him than either inside the bag or in his human's arms.

Fadamor, I don't think the dog lacks exercise. I know people that have tiny delicate dogs like that and they all have no other choice than carrying them to the softer ground in a park and make them walk and run there. The dog is too fragile to walk all the distance, and they get their paws bleeding if they walk on the pavement. What I don't get is why that type of pet is so popular.

A day like today

With thousands upon thosands of teenagers, office workers and otaku from Saitama. I wouldnt want my toy dog walking around. He might get hit by bicycle retards, otaku, office people who dont have common sense bump and smash their way to get to work, go for lunch, or go home. Yeahhhh !!!! SMART OWNERS !!!!!

@Cleo:

You should not treat your husband that way. heeheee just teasing.

Dogs are cute. I love them. They never argue back at all.

Poor dog, he never gets any exercise but he is STILL harnessed up with a leash. The way they have him straddling the bag doesn't look too comfortable, either.

And I'll bet the dog prefers to be riding the bag instead of inside it.

Dogs are no more than toys in this crazy country; they rank slightly higher than children for many people.

The pavement is probably too hot for the little doggie.

Not putting the dog in a coat would make it much better. BTW, loads of doggie pets here in Karuizawa now, many riding in dog-carts, sometimes the whole (dog)family together and their owners carrying them up and down the stairs.

There are even strollers for doggies. Also coolbiz outfit for doggies. They are so spoiled. Japanese dogs like Pochi and Shiro used to be like tied with chains outside whether it was cold or hot.

Some poor dogs in my neighbourhood still are, but thankfully more and more people are learning the joy of sharing their home with a dog instead of tying him up outside like an animal.

Fadamor, would you want dogs running around leadless in Ikebukuro?

@moonbeams2 Are you complaining about complainers complaining AGAIN??!!

Always love the pampered dog-as-accessory pics of the day on JT! Haven't been many lately. My fave was that one with the, ahem, "flamboyant" gentleman cruising with his permed poodle around Harajuku in his pink convertible. A JT classic!

Louis Vuitton?

Isn't there a code prohibiting taking their dogs out without leash? In this season, a road paved with asphalt becomes too hot for dogs to walk on. Do they put their dog on their bag to avoid burn dog's sole?

Walk? What walk?

The guy's shorts are too long.

I love 'em too, but I've got a feisty Shiba here who's living proof that (some) dogs do argue back!

a walk? ._. how in the world is that a walk? i bet thats highly uncomfortable.. at least put the dog inside the bag so he can rest. D: it looks like its hurting his 'unmentionables' TTwTT

The dog is lucky. He gets to stay off the ground and thus avoid the radioactive fallout on the streets. Very nice owners.

I guess if you have no room for a real dog, a little yappy, biting, barely intelligent ball of flea-inviting poo-poo making creature would have to do. I prefer my whippet.

Animal abuse.

I'll bet the bag was used for riding the train or being in a store, and they had just exited a store or station when the photo was taken.

Then you ultra negatives just found something to complain about. Again.

there are too many dogs now in Japan, especially these yappy genetically misfit ones. Most owners are responsible but many are not, dog crap everywhere, dogs off leach terrorizing kids or others. Dogs off their leach in crowded parks should be shot.
