Don't drink too much

But Japan urge people to drink to boost their economy.

The sad thing is, for millions of Japanese people working jobs they hate for a pittance they cannot live on, getting boozed up in the evenings is their only relief.

People under 30 drink less than those before.

The first two comments are telling the truth and have received a number of negatives. Why is that, when what they say is true? Not long ago, the government was encouraging more drinking among young people as they saw a decline in young people's drinking habits (which is great). Drinking too much does no one any good. It just creates more slavery to something one does not actually need, as do many other addictions.

@DB, if they are waiting until evening, that is better than workers in the past who started imbibing midday. Surely there are a few of those early birds, and a good number of non-teetotal expats, mixed in with your drunken millions? You never indulge?

Yep...a poster will help.

I see a "poster led recovery " in Japan's economy. Printing industry in boom times.

Let's treat everyone like morons and have posters.....for everything.

There is a ridiculous advertisement I have seen on YouTube, I don’t know if anyone else has seen it.

The purpose of the advertisement is to promote responsible drinking and it is set in a very noisy and boisterous izakaya.

Some guy who sounds really drunk is screaming a slogan in English, I think it was “safe drinking” or something similar.

To me, it is absolutely ridiculous because other than the slogan nothing about the presentation of the video or the setting carries this message.

It’s like Japan is in between a rock and a hard place, they know they shouldn’t really be encouraging everyone to drink to excess due to the health and social problems that brings but the state of the economy dictates that they need people to drink to excess in bars and izakayas.

It would be laughable if it wasn’t so pathetic.

Everywhere, all over the planet, every time people drink too much, they do stupid things.

Even sober, people can make silly decisions.

Ladies and Gents...I give you...The MAGA crowd.

Young girls in Japan/Korea drink more than the boys this generation.

Drink but moderately. Up to 2 pints a day, 3 days a week not bad.

Every night is Friday night for the Japanese! My local izakaya was roaring with drunken business people last night!

I had a 32 inch waist when I arrived on these shores. I have a metabo problem now...

Well said, David.

A campaign might have more impact if we could see videos of people who have had their faces smashed up by drunken partners. But this is Japan. "Humankind cannot bear very much reality" -- TS Eliot.

Do any JT posters remember "nomunication"? I think that concept is definitely dead now. I may have contributed to its demise when I told my sociopathic boss exactly what I thought about him (with plenty of examples). He didn't forgive me the next day and things got so bad I had to quit the company. It was fun though.

Alcoholism is genetic, progressive and incurable. My (Irish) relatives drank themselves to death. Not a great message for Friday night, but please enjoy life while you can. Every day is a gift.

"Humankind cannot bear very much reality"

It can be an escape for some.

I must admit to a few marathon booze sessions as a student and in my 20s. Brits have been notorious for binge drinking for centuries.

Older and wiser these days but still love a good Scotch or a good beer in summer.

Moderation in all things.

On the subject of escaping reality and unhealthy habits and addictions, it reminds me of the net and social media. Some are addicted to games, porn etc. Some people on social media even create multiple personalities and spam obsessively. Very ill people needing help and real friends.

Lots of pitfalls out there.

So you think the government will soon be releasing an instructional poster on having more babies?

Hahaha
