Just push their legs over if they don't move, I do !

Both the pelvis and femoral neck angle are different in males and females. As a result, the natural resting state for men’s legs is open, not closed. It takes active muscle engagement for men to sit with their legs parallel. Of course, some men take this to an extreme; but, generally speaking, it is due to anatomy rather than a lack of manners that most men sit with with their legs slightly splayed open.

Also there is something in between that should not get squished!!!

. . . the sit-down seat width, give and take [a few makes a difference] . . . .

Those damn round-eyed Asians...

People don’t really sit next to each other as much anymore. I see hesitation sometimes to squeeze between 2 people.

nobody ever sits next to me due to my size and their racism. I love it!

I just sit down and then squash them they usually move seats. Last week I took a two-hour train journey to Osaka and back again. Never witnessed any seat problems except the lack of them for some.

Nobody or very few people including women sit with their legs completely closed. Some women do when wearing miniskirts. Is anybody saying that men need to sit with their legs completely closed. There's plenty of space for the average man to sit normally with legs open without touching or pushing against another person's legs. This behavior is from men who are frustrated with life and their jobs or have a weird sense of territoriality due to insecurities. I'm 6' tall and have no problem sitting normally. I guess someone who is really tall or big may feel the need to but being fat isn't an excuse either. Lose weight then.

it's just as bad on the Green Car...one guy I say next to the orher day was offended because I asked him to move his PC bag from the aisle seat so that I could sit down...he then promptly told me I needed to "suica" in...I don't have a suica...so I waited for the conductor...he fumed the whole time...

At least they have removed the blonde foreigners who were seen as infringing the most from the posters of 4 or 5 years ago.

I just point at whatever offending item they have in the seat that should be vacant and state loudly that "I'm going to sit there." And then sit there.

Manners. Not manner. Winter clothes can be bulky but that has nothing to do with manners. Stupid writing.

Also, am I the only one noticing the two women in the picture each blocking a seat, one with her purse, the other with her coat?

Probably. Coat issues can easily happen by accident (I'm sure you've done the same thing, at least momentarily. Who hasn't?) and are easy to address. The "purse" is a shopping bag. The woman has one by her right side. I think the one you're referring to is meant to belong to the man.

I wish our mass transit had signs like these; our commuter trains are filled with unwashed, drug-addled homeless passed out and sprawled over several seats, I wish our only complaint was people spreading legs !

Spread legs and bags on chairs?

No problem.

Just sit down swiftly on the chair, no warning.

they either gotta move it, or suffer the consequences.

works every time.

they might get pissed or scoff, but what does it matter?

they’re in the wrong. Just give them a smirk back. Sumimassen….
