What a SMART Japanese person would have done is taken a picture of the kittens (which look like adult cats by the way, not kittens at all, especially the fat one in back), posted it on mixi, then taken a picture of the picture, then a picture of that so it looks infinite! Imagine the thumbs up!
Soldave is right, though. You need only stop walking and stand in the street as though you're lined up for something and people here will line up behind simply because it looks like you are. Stop and take a picture of the sidewalk and others will stop, take a look at what you're shooting, then quietly do the same. It's like a sickness.
And anyway, did anyone bother to help the cats down?
I think monkeys would of been more interesting to see, there were a few monkeys running about in Shibuya two years back that was plastered all over the news
This image reminds of the good old days back in Oz. Whenever we saw a group of Japanese tourists we'd always stop and point up into the trees telling them there was a koala in the tree then just walk off. Nine times out of ten they were still there half an hour later looking it.
soldave, I see what you mean. For some reason I was looking at this picture again...and then uncontrollably, I took out my cell phone and started taking pictures of the cats in the picture.
One of them looks like the cat taking a nap right next to me. A few pictures were taken earlier this evening, and it never gets old. It's like breathing air. Long live good design.
It starts with one person taking a shot, then another sees them and takes a shot. Others see and think it's something special and starts taking shots themselves. In the end you get the scene you see above.

MaboDofulsSpicy: "Lucky they do not eat cats here like they do in China. Those would be gone fast."
Still will be if the old-school shamisen maker has his way.

Vernie: "Wow...this looks more popular than the wild seal that was swimming in Arakawa River in back in October."
Nah... those things get Japanese nationality before ethnic Koreans, these cats will just get train stations to guard at best.

Look at the faces. Not a smile among them. It seems that even finding things kawaii has become a chore.
What a perfect illustration of the soulless desperation of these morons.

Not difficult to achieve in Japan.

Wonder if there was anyone behind the Japan-Today photographer taking a photo? And someone behind them.. and someone behind ...
nath
Yeah, seriously don't get it. You could probably put a pile of excrement up there and it would get the same amount of attention.
Gurukun
I don't get it. Cell phone pics? Crowd? These people never seen cats before?

Lovely Kittens (stress-free?) Hope this duo is not deviating public attention from shopping !
