If you zoom in closer you can actually see your tax money going up in smoke.

No matter how much you deny it, a military force for DEFENSE is a necessary evil.
Sun Tzu preaches it, Carl von Clausewitz talks about it, Machiavelli and Jomini elaborates it. When all diplomacy fails you need planB prepared to ensure security since sticking your head in the sand is not going to solve anything.

Remember that Japan regularly sets defense spending equal to about 1% of it's GDP, since Japan's GDP is the world's third largest, 1% is a big amount.

Looks like there's 3 types?
One to the left looks like an Kawasaki OH-1? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kawasaki_OH-1
2nd from the right is a AH-64 Apache? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_AH-64_Apache
Other 2 are AH-1 Cobra? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bell_AH-1_Cobra
Wonder what kind of integration goes on between them / command.

Nice choppers too.

@Serrano every country in the world with a military better has enough money to keep up training sessions for it!

The Kwacker is the best one.

Japanese troops strut their stuff.

Tank at the bottom left appears to be a Type 74... thought they had all been phased out? Ah well... still a good tank. Oh, just zoomed in and there are another two Type 74s in the background, a double-barrelled AA vehicle and some Type 90s. Nice.

As a young military brat, I was easily excited by seeing cool military displays but as an adult I am supprised to see so many older poster's with this same excitement.

How about a picture of Japan's four carriers?
songwillem2011
Type 89 IFV in the front, Type 87 SPAAG on the side, a Type 90 tank on the right I see maybe three Type 10 tanks in the front right. The Type 74 tank will start being phased out in 2016 after they introduce the MCV a fast 8x8 wheeled 105mm gun tank destroyer and will be fully retired by about 2024.

I missed it again this year. Oh well. Maybe next time.

SamuraiBlue: I guess you don't realize WE already had a DEFENSE force, NOW it's is becoming something else! "Fighting for peace is like screwing for virginity"

That's nice that the Japanese gov't has enough money for all this firepower.
