I'd like nothing better than to interview some of these young men and women, both today, and this same time next year. Their insights would be invaluable, and should be listened to with great attention.

All in all, they're just another brick in the wall.

You can't even tell them apart, especially with the masks. Same suit, same briefcase, same haircut. Good luck taking order from an office bully who does nothing but puff out hot air because his seniority, which he earned by kissing a lot of behinds, not through hard work, likes to lord said seniority over these poor hapless new recruits.

Good luck young folks! Don't let them beat you down and when you are down, talk to someone, don't let problems fester.

Get out now, with your soul still intact.

Good point. What's the deal with buying a big new shiny watch here in Japan?

Having a watch is important, don’t know why because the phone you look at every 10 seconds has a clock. But anyway you need a watch to tell you it’s lunch time, paid hours over, excessive hours of work? Get home wake up, catch the train, must coincide with the time table, clock on. And in 40 years now 50 years of drudgery they might give you a watch that’s cheaper than the one you have. You made it! You made it through a complete life of meaningless drudgery, but you have a cheep watch it encapsulates all you have sacrificed for. Oh the reward.

After working in Australia, UK and around Asia, I've realised how there's little to no room for individuality in the corporate environment of Japan.

Poor people, just another 50 years of bullying and brainwashing, before they retire. Ive just been thinking how long would I last in one of these type of work places, some where between .5 and 1 second I think.

I’ve never used a watch in at least 20 years after my first daughter was born. I’m fine with my cellphone and clock. I don’t need the mainstream advertisements.

Yup! From my experiences at working at Japan Inc. and those izakaya meetings with men on one side and women on the other, I’d say that might be true. It’s interesting how the ladies try to drop hints on men about marriage. I mostly said, “I’m okay. No worries. I’ll think about that when my time comes.” I don’t conform to lady’s expectations of the perfect husband.
