Based on the photo, those dancers have very short legs. (very unattractive) The guy in the front / center is clearly overacting.

This is a very deceptively interesting question.
The salute in Japan is roughly based on a form of Bellamy Salute a pledge of allegiance? Which is based on the Roman salute. The US even used a similar salute when pledge to their flag. That is until the horrible and evil regime of the Nazis came along and twisted it to symbolize their sic regime, just as the stole the peaceful manji symbol.
However, please do not worry, in Japan, it has absolutely no connection to the evil Nazi regime.

@Yumster. I'm not talking about the suit. I'm talking about the type of suit. All black, no expression or variety

Look behind the young guys and you will see a lot of older guys gawking.
I guess the salute has to do with the idea of changing the temple symbol on maps for the Olympics.

You're not missing a thing. Someone who shows up for an interview for a non-manual labor position and isn't wearing business attire already has a strike against them in the selection process. This is just as true in the States as it is in Japan. Are there exceptions? Of course, but they're the EXCEPTION rather than the norm.

Wearing a suit is pretty standard in most job interviews. Perhaps I'm missing something?

I'm cheered up!

Meh, how much did everyone pay to attend the rally? How much was everyone paid to attend the rally? Everyone gets a choice, what one does with it is up to them.

"They are also used in mind-numbingly boring sports."
"Baseball fits this category, yet I don't see cheerleaders at MLB games. It might improve attendance!"
Baseball is boring. I've been to baseball games in Japan and the US and alcohol got my through. I went to an American Football game and the alcohol just couldn't do the job. It was torture. The beer was appalling as well.
Boring v mind-numbingly boring.

I like the guy just to the left of center... Just looking was not enough, he had to tilt his head to get an even LOWER look.

Cheerleaders for me are generally employed to deflect attention from tedious things - in this case job hunting. They are also used in mind-numbingly boring sports.
If cheerleaders turned up at my meetings, staff nights out or a day with the in-laws, I'd see the attraction.

Seeing this, I can't but think that Japan is not only populated by imbeciles, but it keep creating new ones.

I'm thinking it is a form of Bellamy Salute a pledge of allegiance?
Wakayama Mama
What's with that salute?

I see no women will graduate and seek jobs, save for the token two put on stage OBVIOUSLY to still appeal to the dopes in the crowd. The usual sexist drivel here. I guess this is a kind of training for when they have the oyaji snack parties and have to pay the girls to sit with them and compliment them, though.

I am just kidding honestly.

Classic. Oh, and I'm sure the guy in the middle is thinking deeply about his job strategy at that moment, "how to be the coach of the cheerleading squad".

"Below, two college students publicly declare that they will do their best in trying to find a job."
....and declare they will laugh and clap when their boss cracks an unfunny joke and grin and bear it when he gets pissed and starts making sleazy remarks.
Best of luck, ladies.

What's with the Hitler Salute in picture 2?
Moderator: It is not a Hitler salute. It is quite common at sports festivals in Japan. And for your reference, it can be traced back to the Roman Empire.

Did the Prime Minister attend the event?

Judging by their expressions, it seems to be working.

Agree, just another 'only in Japan' moment.
I don't get the negative comments though, looks pretty harmless to me. If a few cheerleaders make these young blokes more positive about their future then bring it on. Might even suit up and try to worm my way in next time (toolies aren't cool though :)
Christopher Glen
Job seekers should ditch those depressing suits. It's like they are at a funeral for their lost youth. No wonder they need morale-boosting
John-San
It could be a image of the DRPK workers saluting KIm

Will they put one of these shows on for female jobseekers? Only in Japan

I didn't need cheerleaders... I just had my dad telling me if I didn't get a job I'd be out the door, hahaha

The front row are in danger of pathological dispersion of a gas in a form of liquid or semisolid, have mercy please seek treatment, restructuring the brains fibrous tissues can at least prevent the dribbling, it is all down to a question of voltage, plug them all in.

Eyes up guys!

So this is their first oyajisan party in a sense. Many more of those to come in corporate necessary team building skills.
papigiulio
What is there to complain about? I wish I had a dozen cheerleaders cheering me on everyday I go to work.
Aly Rustom
pathetic that this is the only way to boost morale
Yubaru
It's rather sad that things have gotten to this point. There are PLENTY of jobs available, but these recent college grads are unwilling to take entry level positions.

Another "only in Japan" moment....
wtfjapan
