For Paris

16 Comments

Tokyo Tower is illuminated with the colors of the French flag, as Tokyo joins other cities in lighting landmarks to show solidarity with the victims of the terror attacks in Paris, in Tokyo on Sunday night. Below, Tokyo Skytree, the tallest tower in Japan, is also illuminated with the colors of the French flag.

It's a nice gesture.

Antonio, what are you talking about? What reaction time? You don't just flick a switch and the tricolors turn on. I would say this was a prompt response.

"The question has to be asked, why do some nationalities get more mourning then others?"

Only if you are in G7. A Russian airliner went down, more lives lost than in Paris and the "world media" didn't raise a eyebow. Because Russia is no longer our buddy

Also, sports teams in N. America honored the France casualties today, including the U.S. Army and Navy football teams running into the stadiums waving giant France flags

@Antonio/ @Brainiac:

Or Antonio could, you know, look at the second picture posted. (Hint: It's sky tree).

Not about nationality but about being a caring human being.

I am sure the Paris attacks caused many tears to be shed by Muslims in many countries.

The question has to be asked, why do some nationalities get more mourning then others?

It is true that some events closer to home get more coverage here, but then again, isn't that the same in every country? Also, the terror attack in Turkey was not an attack against Turkey but against Kurds by IS supported by the Turkish government, so if you wanna fly a flag, fly the Kurdish one.

Well, it makes sense that developed countries will mourn other developed countries' losses more than undeveloped ones as they have much deeper cultural, economic, political ties than the others so makes complete sense and should not be considered strange at all. Bombings in Lebanon, Iraq and Nigeria are all tragic and terrible to hear about, but massacres at bars, football stadiums, concerts, cafes, etc. in Paris or London or Sydney strike directly at home so I will mourn these attacks infinitely more than a massacre in Peshawar.

Some countries are a little less brown than others.

Ohh, but when the US votes for "change" and we end up w/Obama . . . folks still aren't satisfied. The libs are never satisfied. . . . . even when the French are being mourned and the world laments for those who perished @ the will of "Islamic Extremists."

That was random.

"Muchas Garcias!", as they say in Franch.

Tokyo tower but not skytree . What is the problem with the reaction time in Japan to events like this ? Too much bowing to superiors .... That's it ! If something like this happens you do not have to ask your boss to do it and ask it later if he is not a total imbecile he will thank you for that .
