Looks like Hachiko-mae on a Sunday morning. The streets will be clear in 30 seconds.
the_odeman
That would suck if you were actually gunning for a top 10 position, but were positioned at the back, because that would take you atleast 10minutes to get out of the crowd, which would kill off your chances

And here I was hoping it was an anti-government protest... oh well..

Hmmm looks like Akihabara on the day it re-opened to pedestrian traffic.

Today must be the day of mass events.

The_odeman: I think most big races nowadays outfit the runners with some kind of gps chip so that your time starts when you actually cross the starting line, not when the gun goes off. Also, top class runners are usually given starting positions near the front.

I wonder if Murakami is still running.

What a mob.

Well done Ebisen - hope you enjoyed it! The volunteers and cheerers really do make it a whole lot easier. Without the support, I'd have found it a lot harder (last year).
TokyoGas
Ebisen - you ran it? That is great! I just rode my bike around town. Maybe 10kms total. :)

This is the run-and-giggle mob - the serious runners are up the front. Respect to ANYONE who can run 42 kms though!

What a sea of people. Wow!!!

some are dressed like anime characters. The frog at the start is cute.

Don't know, but I can see Wally.
ambrosia:
They didn't do that when I ran there a few years back, otherwise I would have made it in just under 4 hours! D*mn!

This reminds me of the "guess how many balls are in the jar" competitions at fetes. I go for 4371. People that is. For balls you'd have to double it, roughly.

i found Waldo..............
start 5th ( going up ) from the front left, next count 11 towards right( pass the bottle head dude ), then count 37 towards the top and there you'll find waldo.

To be honest with you I am with Sarge in calling this a mob. Hope to gosh it stayed in control or sensible. So one of the reasons I say AWAY from crowds, for doubt if we have seen anything like that in Canada.

Elite runners were allowed to prepare in a separate location, and were allowed to get at the front of the line shortly after the wheelchairs racers departed, about 10 minutes before the start of the marathon. It looked like there were about 80 elite runners, both men and women. The starting line for the elite runners was only 2 or 3 people deep.
