Samsung says the Galaxy Note II smartphone has sold more than 3 million units since it went on sale just over a month ago. The Note II features a screen measuring 5.5 inches diagonally, a digital pen for note-taking, 4G capability, long-life battery and more. With the S Pen, you can quickly take notes in your own handwriting, navigate with the precision of a mouse, and edit documents in a flash.

How much does it cost? Where can I buy one (in Japan)?

I ordered mine sim free....I'll put it on softbank just minus MMS and probably 4G , which I can live without...

Although the new Galaxy looks great, I still prefer to buy an apple over a Galaxy.

It's comparing oranges to apples, it all depend on your wishes and needs, if you watch lots of movies, nothing beats a 5.5 inch phone, which plays any file you throw at it. If you like to customize your phone according to your own wishes, android is the way to go. If you already bought tons of Apple apps, love Itunes, care about design/material, the Iphone 5 is the way to go. Anyway it's a win/win situation even if droid/apple fans try to convince you otherwise.

Dutchduck: And believe it or not, there are some who own multiple smartphones, Apple, Blackberry and/or Android.

They are on Docomo, you can buy sim free but docomo records the the unique phone code and only allows those phones onto their sp access points, basically if you have an unregistered phone on the docomo network you have to pay an extra 3000yen a month to use their roaming network. It is their punishment for wanting to use a phone that is not sold by docomo.

Galaxy is cool - better phone than Apple. Just not the same image. And Moe Oshiri is nice too.

They are reliable and cheap, it's a piece of cake to set it up on softbank, Docomo might work, but they are not very cooperative with certain information......and AU maybe not as they are using a different system, but I could be wrong. On softbank you're monthly bill will be a tad higher on packet yarihodai, maybe 200 yen more...and you can't use mms if you don't want to root your phone.

Ooops didn't read that...your best bet is Softbank, and don't go to a softbank shop, but to one in an Eden or Yamada denki as they are more helpful.

@gogogo. you can actually pay a one-time fee of JPY3000 (approx) to have your docomo phone unlocked at any docomo shop - I know someone who did this for their Samsung Note II & Galaxy S3. If you do this they will not charge you that extra JPY3000 a month. But as you say, If you buy and try to connect to the docomo LTE network with an unlocked unit you bought in say HK, US, or S'pore, you will get hit with that extra JPY3000/month. Basically market protection and part of a deal the carriers negotiated a few yrs back where the govt forced them all to let consumers have access to unlocked SIM cards.

Saulo AKazawa...Docomo has them... not sure if other carriers do yet but sometimes electronics shops carry more phone models than just the normal phone shops.
