Eri Momoka, 28 (3rd from left), Jun Komori, 24, (with microphone) and four other top "gyaru" models attend an anniversary event for fashion magazine Edgestyle on Sunday, celebrating the hottest trends in fashion and makeup for the Shibuya crowd. Komori told the audience she'd like to involve more men in the magazine, pushing for more appearances by hot "ikemen" (hot guys). Model Ayana Tsubaki, 25, was supposed to appear at the event, but a 38-degree fever kept her home over the weekend.

Cute, but the "fashion" is all a bit outlandish...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

from bad picture to the worse. sorry nothing constructive to say. They are all artifical. The one on left looks like paris hilton.

Outlandish? A beehive hair style is outlandish. This seems pretty tame to me!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Black must the "in" color this year....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

No wonder department stores are in a recession if those are the hottest trends this year.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Couldn't they afford wireless mikes? Those big thick black cables look inviting to trip over, and rather clumsy. So much for fashion.

Doesn't look like any of them like their original black hair...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yes, I agree about the hair. Why do so many Japanese women not like the natural black hair they are born with?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Collectively, they must have the IQ to know which trains take them home. I feel sad for the Japanese guys who 'aspire' to dating something resembling this group. Give me a simply-dressed Japanese woman with beautiful straight black hair and some personality and humility any day.

I live for long time in Japan and have never met such women. Hopefully you find

Now this is such a shame. I love the color black, simple and classic. Such a disgrace to see it tarted up this way. The one holding the mic looks like she just escaped being mauled, from the torn pants to the frizzy hair. Sigh...bad fashion all around. I have no problems with the hair, though, quite a common sight in Tokyo, really.

Great photo! I loooove Shibuya girls.

I would have never thought I'd agree with LoveUSA but for once I have to!

the girl second from left is wearing a pair of shiny black tight like things I've been seeing lately.

me like.

Those stockings were all the rage last year in the U.S when Rihanna wore a pair. They're cute, but hardly what you would expect from "innovative" Japanese fashion. Also, the shirt and skirt? DAME, DAME, DAME. However, she is easily the best-dressed in the photo. Considering how easy a feat it is to stand out in this ill dressed group, it's hardly a compliment. My recommendation? A. All the girls need to brush their hair, the frizziness is appalling. B. Please don't wear pants that are ill-fitting and ripped, it doesn't work unless you're draped across a car in a whitesnake video. C. Black only works if you can wear tasteful accessories. Remember that less is more. Other than that, physically the girls are very pretty, just bad taste in clothes.

This comment totally made my day!! LOL!! and yep, you are most certainly right, it's disgraceful the way they damage their natural hair color with those ridiculous bright tones that doesn't match their physical features at all. The clothing style doesn't make sense and I have plenty of clothes from Shibuya109 (Cecil McBee, EGOIST, Moussy, etc.) and I know how to match this and that. But black clothes with light green shoes?!?! WTF? Black dress with a light purple innner shirt? and the blue beret? hahahaha they look like clowns except maybe for the cutie with the black leggins. She is the ONLY one looking classy so far. and the hair? They "love" to have that frizzy awful-looking hair...what's up with using hair-gloss and treatments to prevent damage? Frizzy damaged hair: gross!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes and yes.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So much black, when did it became the gyaru color?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

man, either a bunch of jealous women posted or a bunch of doods lying about how they REALLY feel, those girls look scrumptious!!

Altria at 01:48 PM JST - 30th November Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes and yes.

Agreed! yum, yum, yum, yum, yum, and yum.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

man, either a bunch of jealous women posted or a bunch of doods lying about how they REALLY feel, those girls look scrumptious!!

They dont. They look like plain girls that have spent a lot on make-up and clothes and now look OK. The reason none of these girls go for the straight black hair, minimilist make up and mainstream fashion sense is that no-one would look twice if they did. By wearing their lookatmelookatmelookatmelookatme Paris Hilton-esque make-up and clothes, they will get some attention.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Personally, I like the shiny black with the bright colours for accents. As for the hairstyles and make-up, don't see any problem really. They are models so of course lots of make-up and big hair. Many girls in their 20's do pay a lot of attention to their appearance. What's the big deal.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@dolphingirl,

Good point there...There's nothing wrong with trying to mix some bright colors with black, but neon-colors? Makes you go hmmm.. It would be AWESOME if they were going to the trance club or to a party. I've seen so much better in Magazines like Jelly and Nuts. I buy both monthly. I'm a loyal fan of models Maya Mori and Hoshiaya and they both dress fantastic and their hair is beautiful and healthy. Never seen them with frizzy or damaged hair. What's happening here is nothing new, they just like the used-style clothing and trashy-looking hair which some Gyaru-o (tanned-guys) are into. The used-style (wego, off-house, album, etc.) is cool when you don't have a lot of money to spend on clothes. 109 clothing brands can be quite expensive, believe me. About the make-up, one thing is to apply with care and moderation in order to look natural, the other is to spend the whole base tube and end up wearing a mask making you look artifical and hideous. No big deal really, just plenty of fashion styles, hair and make-up to choose from! I LOVE Shibuya! :)

I certainly hope that this is not the top of the heap. These chicks look a little scruffy.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@LoveUSA I can't figure out what it is. Maybe something that she thinks makes her look kawaii but in truth doesn't.

@dbung10 Very well said! And I bet their personality is even flatter than their fake looks.

I actually don't mind the color change. That looks actually quite good one some girls but I can't understand why they would do that perm-wave horror to them.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yes to every one of them. Great way to start off the Monday as well

0 ( +0 / -0 )

6 slags

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yeah of course 20 something year old girls pay a lot of attention to how they look, but these girls come across as if the way they look is the ONLY thing they care about. And if the way they look is the ONLY thing they care about, then they should be doing better that wearing black bin liners in various styles, applying way too much make up and wearing a life size wig from a Victorian era child's doll.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I wonder if it would be possible to cobble together even ONE decent outfit between the lot of them?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

dbung10: You're right. It does seem pretty superficial but we really don't know anything about these women or what other interests they might have. I admit that some of those Shibuya girls do look very weird but I admire anyone who has some kind of passion and creativity!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@flatearther :

You're right, I think they should shed the costumes all together.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

They might look alright, but going on a date with one of these would probably be about as interesting as watching paint dry. I can easily imagine the mind-numbingly boring conversation you'd have about nail varnish, clothes, cute pets, and, no doubt, food.

Yeah me too. But I dont think these girls have either passion or creativity. Hopefully Im wrong and they are all really nice girls that dont just care about what they look like and grabbing an 'ikemen' guy before they get old.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

To all the guys who are worried about going on a date with any of these horrors, I wouldn't worry. Like the gal says, they only like ikemen. Having met many of these male bimbos, I can assure you that your fears are entirely unfounded. They only like men who enjoy prattling about safe, boring topics they enjoy, food, cute animals, clothes, etc. Like attracts like, as they say.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Not if my imagination is anything to go by.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

valid points flatearther. These girls are just trying to survive and that is about it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Attack of the killer poodle people.

Kawaii is killing Japan. These girls are the vanguard of the kawaii disease.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

these girls deserve ikemen. bubbles heads and skanks all of them.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

trashy looking, gehin girls. just gotta love japan.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

flatearther: dont need to be an ikemen to date one a tart like that, just money.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@hakujinsensei- LOL!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Phwooahh!!

Don't worry, Richard III, they wouldn't go on a date with you anyway.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

That's true, none of these girls would be interested in Richard III, he reads the newspaper. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe ikemen read much of anything. Besides, he's not missing much, you can find shabbily dressed women anywhere.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ikemen? We're expected to think there's something wrong with hot young women wanting a good-looking bloke? Or have I missed something here, Sillygirl? What are they supposed to be looking for? Rough-as-arseholes fat old blokes?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Nothing wrong with dating a good looking guy, but with the few ikemen that I've stupidly agreed to go on a date with the lack of conversation was....noticeable. Perhaps I've just had bad luck, but the ones I dated had the personality of a doily, boring and dusty. I love a good looking man (who doesn't like eye candy?) but unfortunately, that seems to be all they are. Sigh...these girls can have them. Might be a good thing, too. The boys can give them tips on proper hair care. :)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

well, they look cute and... funny. if they know this- its fine:)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

flatearther owns this thread....go girl!! :)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I have to agree that this look isn't my cup of tea either. There are gorgeous women who don't look like this at all. That being said, to cast aspersions on how these girls dress and act is a bit much, considering that those things in particular do not affect you on a personal level. For all the criticism people level on here, based purely on physical looks, it does makes one wonder what people here look like as well. I'd almost be expecting you all to be models yourselves. Right ...? Live and let live, guys.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@Miyaratmosphere- Domo arigato gozaimasu!

BTW, I'm not criticizing these women for their personality or physical attributes, I don't know them and they could be MENSA candidates for all I know. They certainly seem to be very pretty, though some posters have called them plain. I AM criticizing their atrocious fashion sense, and since they're models (modeling clothing, I presume), I think that's fair game. You don't need to be beautiful to wear clothing that is tasteful, well fitted and suits you. In fact, I've met women who could quite honestly be called busu who had no problem finding handsome, intelligent men simply by wearing clothes that made them look like a million bucks. These type of women have style, something that I wish was more in fashion here.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

are they twin sisters ?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Cherryblossomgirl:no, its just clone attack

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If you're going to rip on their fashion, you've got to remember that they are 'gyaru' models...They aren't necessarily modelling to please a mainstream audience or show off fashions that people on JT might be into. Rather, they are modelling clothes aimed a niche audience. While I'm not a fan of this look either, I'll bite my tongue as I'm sure these girls might have a few criticisms to make about my fashion sense too.

Nice pants on the one third from the right, and nice thighs on the one third from the left.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

LoveUSA, too funny.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Capitalism, globalization, modern fashion and these girls are trying their best to destroy the (unti recently) stereotyped image of Japanese women being modest, submissive to husbands, elegant, black hair and proud of their nationality. Such a shame...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

" submissive to husbands " sorry I want a woman with a brain. Anyways fashion is very bad here..

0 ( +0 / -0 )

i love the one with no hat looking at the bunny ears and thinking WTF?!?!??!!?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

You people are all just jealous of these pretty girls with unusual taste in fashion.

It really hurts my feelings when you all pigeon-hole people based on looks. I'm a good looking guy, and I can talk a girl's ear off!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

You people are all just jealous of these pretty girls with unusual taste in fashion.

Um, 1) none of these girls are pretty and 2) None of them have an unusual taste in fashion. The 'gyaru' look is mainstream and has been for a long time.

It really hurts my feelings when you all pigeon-hole people based on looks. I'm a good looking guy, and I can talk a girl's ear off!

and modest with it! you must be quite a catch!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

hot, I think they were all in a dream I had the other night....or maybe the one I'll have tonite!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Is this a line up for those charged with illegal prostitution? Just curious because they are all dressed like...well...you know....
