Palestinian school children prepare to fly kites to show solidarity with the Japanese people, near the Japan-funded housing project in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, on Sunday. The event was organised by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) to mark the anniversary of the March 11, 2011 earthquake and tsunami that killed thousands and set off a nuclear crisis in Japan.

This will start the discussion of "But does Japan remembers Gaza? Bad Japan!"...I have a feeling.

What? What's their relationship with Japan?

Without the Japanese funding for the 'sanctuary', does anyone think the residents of Gaza would do this? I hate to be a cynic, but I am. There's nothing to this story but schmaltz.

They both consist of humans who care for other humans.

Near a Japan-funded housing project. Well, there's your motivation. I'm surprised they're not making cranes.

Propaganda by institutions involved.

Seems like only one person is trying to start such a conversation, bud. The rest of us are saying thanks.

It is a pure act by pure and innocent children, we all should solute and thank them. Don't bring any politics into this. Just admire and enjoy the scene of this innocent act of children. They remember the 3/11 and we remember it too. Thanks!

Completely misleading headling. It is not "Gaza" that "remembers" the Tohoku disaster, it is a handful of people (I would guess about 120 in the photo) from a Japanese-funded housing project who were called out by UNRWA to stand in the square with a couple of posters. I wager that the average Gazan can not find to Tohoku on a map and does not care to either.
