Any" knowledge of my desire" is wild conjecture. I am not out to "prove" anything. I see numerous possibilities in this picture, not merely the possibilities I have put forward as alternative ways of interpreting a (self confessed) "mostly superficial one."
Stacy - Yes she does look happy, and she looks lovely!
philly1 - "Wise"? Bless your heart, your desire to prove me wrong is strong, and your definition of wisdom quite different from mine.
But there you have it, different pictures mean different things to different people; and different people have different tastes in looks. I don't find him attractive, but she thinks he's the bees' knees and that's why she's marrying him, I would hope.
By now, let's hope they're in air-conditioned surroundings, making sweet, sweet tea.
He has a pale, flabby, (unhealthy) unanimated (unhappy) face under clearly dyed / false hair (vanity, overconcern about ageing). The puffiness suggests a drinker, the half-fists and sagging shoulders - dissatisfaction.
Well, that explains a lot. (Most of the population of any urban area of any age or place, actually.) I read him as perhaps shy, ill-at ease, and perhaps even anxious. Wise (old) enough to worry a little. No one getting married wants to end up unhappy. Alas, many in spite of all their hopes, do.
As for not being bothered by Ivan's comment, that's because I take Ivan's comment in the context of Ivan: witty and often tongue-in-cheek.
What I see in this photo is the maze they had to pass through to reach this point: all the ceremonials, family protocols, and the huge ammount of money it takes. Congrats and long life to the couple.
@philly1 - on a mostly superficial one, ie his appearance. He has a pale, flabby, (unhealthy) unanimated (unhappy) face under clearly dyed / false hair (vanity, overconcern about ageing). The puffiness suggests a drinker, the half-fists and sagging shoulders - dissatisfaction.
Or perhaps he was just out on the tiles the previous night. Who knows.
You're quite right of course, can't judge a book etc etc.
But I was, to put things in context, responding directly to Ivan's comment up there (which you don't seem too bothered by, oddly enough), where he suggested that the man was about to step into a less than happy situation...
On what criteria are you basing your observation? For all we know, the groom may have stellar attributes and assets not captured by a lens. Not everyone is photogenic. And not every drop-dead gorgeous hunk is a good man--pick of the litter or not.

Well, I didn't like to say, but she hasn't exactly opted for the pick of the litter either there, Ivan.

I wish them every happiness, but it does appear that the groom has just twigged what he's signed up for.

It's a nice shrine, Atsuta is. And today was a nice day for a Sunday stroll or, indeed a wedding. All happiness to them in their marriage!
