Congratulations on Mayu Watanabe's great success!

Growing to 51 members it would seem based on this picture. A side of thighs with that shake Guv? Yea, I don't see how 51 young and bouncing girls in very short skirts dancing around on a stage quite a bit higher than the average set of eyes could possibly make some guys become real weirdos...

51 is still less than a 1/4 of all their members across all the AKB48 groups.

WOW, clearly I don't follow this group and was shocked to find they actually have 300 members!!!

I'd love to shag one of them in that outfit. With one of those wireless mics on, hooked up to some speakers - that's be great fun!

I really feel for the less popular girls... The ones who don't even cut the top 50. It must not be very good for their confidence. I was disappointed to see the girl who had to shave her head last year for having a boyfriend, has dropped down down to number 22 or so....

I watched bits of this as I flipped through the channels. Every one of them I saw put on a fake tears show. I really wanted to puke.

I am so sick of this group.

How long will it be before some of these members are replaced by dancing robots?

Would any of the working men in the audience be confident enough to go to work on the Monday and say this is what they did on Saturday night?

I don't want to sound sour, but I can't see any talent in these girls. They are so talentless it hurts.

what kind of work are they doing?.. it will be good if they are active as well or volunteering in helping victims or children around the fukushima area..i think i haven't read any news that shows the involvement of akb48 in that most affected region...

AKB48 make frequent visits to the tsunami-hit region, at least once a month. Plus they have donated billions of yen for disaster relief efforts since March 11, 2011.

Totally agree...and I am sick hearing news about them..really, who cares?

I know that AKB 48 have there followers and some people hate them, but if you think of it they are successful and generate millions of yen for the economy and they also employ a lot of people. In the UK we had a pair of brothers called "Jedwood" now if you think AKB 48 are talentless, well you have not met this pair of talentless pair, can they sing? no! they can't dance, they are thick as dumb as you can get, yet they are multi millionairs. we can swap AKB48 for Jedwood I think it would be a great trade off !!

Whoa ! no girls like me there. when will this group be replaced by something we girls enjoy ed too?

This is like suggesting that food makes people gluttonous and bulimic. Guys looking at girls is normal, and I think its pretty clear in this case that everything is consensual too. You think these girls don't want to be looked at? You think they are not aware of the angles? Or are you suggesting that guys looking will make them want to look more and some will cross the line? Surely some will, but its less to do with the display and more to do being human. Some people will go to extremes and its not new at all.

The name of band is AKB48. If they have 51 now, the name should be changed as Army of Girls which is bigger than Girl Generation and Kara.
To me, they are dynamic, youthful and entertaining. I do not mind whether they have talent or not. That girls like Macdonald staff. When they have reach certain age, they have to say farewell to the band.

It's pop culture, so quit picking on them. If I was still in my early 20s, I'd be after one of them because as a former performer, I know what it takes to get on stage in front of a crowd, nightclub or stadium. These girls are having fun, and that's all that matters.

These girls are being used by a middle aged man to make BILLIONS of Yen. He doesn't care about these girls, (see man with hand saw and very little security).
The founder is so damn creepy. This isn't about talent, this is about using woman's sexuality to make money, something dishonest men have been doing for centuries. And if he WAS honest he would pay them a hell of a lot more money.
As soon as they are smart enough they get out and usually gain a bit more respectability, at least I hope they do.

How do you know this? Some former Morning Musume (similar girl group) members say that being in that group ruined their lives. Not being allowed to date or have a relationship and having to perform in from slimy middle aged misfits and shake their hands doesn't sound like "fun".
Not really, most of these girls don't sing on stage. Only a small handful of these girls sing, the rest just lip sync and mimic the lead girls at the front of the stage...doesn't take much talent to do that.
And this is precisely wrong with the entertainment industry. An influx of talentless eye candy catering to a bunch brainless nitwits willing to blow all their cash on them.
