OK - I'm taking back all the teasing and the bad things I said about this team - they played very nice and the goals were really world class. Japan has indeed become (to my great surprise) a strong world power in football...

Yasuhito Endo - "The Japanese Beckham".

Where are the signs on the Japanese side saying "We will make Danish butter cookies of the Danes"? Looks like the sushi squad came through.

ok as one of the doubters(gladly proven wrong, now if the govt cud do the same....ok ok maybe I shudnt dream too muchLOL) who predicted zero wins & only one goal I will let you know I have set a trap down by the rice field to catch me a crow for this evenings BBQ!

Some nice goals from set plays, never thought I wud see it happen! Nice goal mogura-man(Endo)!

And down the Blue Samurai will go in the 2nd round. Don't believe the hype.

At least you are man enough to admit it.

All the others have quietly crept on the back of the bandwagon and denied any naysaying ever existed...What? Me Pessimistic?

Boy, this game was exiting! Good work, Japan!!!

I think everyone will agree that the MVP of this game is Honda. He made possible, all three goals.

I had a dream they won 4-0. Dang, I should have used a bookie...

to cactusjack ”And down the Blue Samurai will go in the 2nd round. Don't believe the hype.”

whats with all the negativity mate. Im sure youve been saying this every game so far, & it must really hurt every time they prove you wrong - ouch. They are hitting form at the right time & are actually playing some decent football. They have a good chance against Paraguay if they keep this form up - especially Honda.

IT'S ABOUT TIME JAPAN!!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

In the months leading up to the WC, Japan sucked but the team learned the hard way and now are showing what they are made of. Sometimes being the underdog allows to you reach deep inside and prove people wrong. And so far they are proving wrong all those people who didn't believe in them. You go, Japan!

i stand by my prediction -- japan all the way!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Thats a big call crashblossoms! But why not? It is the most open WC ever - and The Samurai shouldn't fear anyone - including Brazil or Argentina. The Great Okada was right when he set the bar at the Semi-finals - minimum.

Didn't see the match (I'm not going to wake up at 3am, no matter what country or sports event it is), but never expected this score. I thought Japan had a chance but not like this!!! Why on earth couldn't they play like this before? Better late than never. I don't know much about Paraguay, but I'm not going to make any bets. It's great to see several of the non-European/South American teams go through. We have Ghana (who unfortunately will have to play USA), South Korea and Japan. Any chance of Ivory Coast going through. Shame NZ didn't make it, despite not losing any matches.

I wonder whether Okada will be welcome back as a hero, after all the flak he got before.

Also, I just don't think it's right to criticize those who thought Japan wouldn't make it to the knock-out stage. They did awful in the friendlies, and you just can't say 'Oh they'll do well when the WC starts'.

Well done. And good riddance to those who didn't want to win or those who thought acting was part of the game.

i stand by my prediction -- japan all the way!

Now that's taking it too far.

I must admit I didn't think the Japanese were going to get past them. But 3-0! I'm very impressed...
