Going gaga

Lady Gaga holds a coffee cup with a message in Japanese that says "Pray for Japan," during a press conference to promote MTV Video Music Aid Japan in Tokyo on Thursday. Lady Gaga said that she will sell the coffee cup at auction and donate the money for quake recovery efforts. She also promised to promote Japan as a safe destination. "I'm going to run around Tokyo and enjoy the beautiful city and kiss all the beautiful little monsters," she said, referring to the pet name she gives to her fans. "I will scream at the top of my lungs that everyone should come to Japan and visit this beautiful place."

She must be a circus performer to be able to walk in those shoes.

is this the new computer generated akb thing?

Good stuff! I think that is a tea cup :)

Lady Gaga is not my cup of tea.

What do people see in her? Bad music, worst fashion sense, "bitchy" girl attitude and makeup my most intense gothic friends would say is too much.

Her one redeeming point has come out in her capacity for charity. Though it will not change my dislike of her as an artist, it has given me respect for her as a human behind all that marking noise.

Is it a man?

My girlfriend would kill for a pair of those heels!

Looks like she is having a blast.

Was never a fan of the 'pray for Japan' phrase. To me it sounds like it makes Japan a lost cause. 'Support Japan' or even 'Help Japan' would be a lot better, albeit simpler. I know of course that the meaning is there, and people are wishing Japan their best, but still. Ah well.

Oh, and Gaga looks hideous, as usual.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Well she's certainly not dumb. She obviously knows a cash cow when she sees one. She's not the first foreign musical artist to do the same and she certainly won't be the last...

What IS it?

Are they filming another Adams Family movie? If they plan to, she'd be perfect as the mother!

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

I hate to say this, but I will say it anyway. I think she isn`t anything nice to look at. She looks like a family member of the Adams family. Infact, I think that the Adams family members looks better than she does in many ways.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

omg she looks like 50 in the picture!

Great, the new JT site now allows me to see photos much larger if I accidentally clicked on it like I did here. Now I need to wash my eyes out.

But I agree with others, the charity side of Gaga is a thumbs up.

Anyone who tries to attack an artist that is successful, intelligent, original and a performer by spewing out a bit of 'nasty' rumor really is a bit sad, try to come even to a 100th of this person's attributes and you MIGHT be getting somewhere. Power to The GaGa.

Kudos for her coming here and promoting Japan, donating her time and music for the charity CD. She has my respect. Maybe groups like SMAP should take a leaf out of her book, instead of "generously" donating trifling amounts.

Ahhh look an empty tea cup with something on it..... and a coffee cup :)

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Doesn't she look like some Martian Cleopatra ? Oh God, these black 'okobo-geta' are truly incredible !

Her presence in Japan as well as her support are more than spiritual power to add a new life to everyone. More tourists and entertainment activities soon resumed to help Japan in all aspects.

"What IS it?"

A wonderful person who has raised $3 million for the Tohoku victims.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

I'm not a fan of her music but I certainly like what she is doing! Great stuff!!

3 ( +3 / -0 )

That is one butt-ugly woman. Eeek.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

That's great! While she's there, would she mind taking a look inside the #2 reactor at Fukushima to see how things are getting on in there?

"While she's there, would she mind taking a look inside the #2 reactor at Fukushima"

Would you?

So you're one of the monsters? I'd have more of a tolerance for Gaga if she didn't see/sell herself as being so original when she's far from it. Sorry but Madonna did everything Gaga has done. Twenty years ago. And better.

I am 67 and I think Gaga is impressive. Her videos are a superbly creative melange of video art, costume design, stage settings, choreography, lighting, special effects and music - not just a single medium. She is just as important and creative as Madonna was (and continues to be) and as an American I am proud of her.

“I will scream at the top of my lungs that everyone should come to Japan and visit this beautiful place.”

When Daiichi is contained and the contamination is cleaned up, I will scream with you.

GaGa has it going on. She's interesting. Her music is catchy. She likes and supports Japan. She's all right in my book.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

As an artist, she is doing nothing new, Madonna did nothing new. All they did was recycle. She's putting her money to good use though. And keep wearing those type of shoes and you will break your back before your time, girl.

A second post to praise Lady Gaga for coming to Japan and raising funds for the victims of the Tohoku region. We might like or dislike her style and music (I personally find them quite creative and interesting in many aspects), but she definitely has a heart !

Lady Gaga looks rather sedate in this photo.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Agreed with ipodiped and USNinJapan. She's merely a Madonna clone, e.g. ver 2.0 with added bells and whistles and risque to pull the wool over people's eyes. You know the world's gone ECO when even artists' styles are recycled for the younger generation.

Having said that, kudos to her for supporting Japan. Can't knock her off for that.

How original-the Hate Brigade is out to bash a woman's appearance.

I am sooo shocked.

Because I'm sure Lady Gaga gives a rat's patootie what you think about her.

I'm not a Gaga fan, but I do appreciate what she has done for Japan. I don't necessarily agree that Japan is a great place to be visiting at the moment, but kudos to her anyway.

When did he become a nuclear radiation expert....talk about propaganda.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Good on her for her charity, bad for us on the "artistic" side, nothing even remotely new there cross between madonna & david bowie etc etc.

Can you imagine her & gene simmons going at it in full battle gear, what a horror movie that wud be!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

That has got to be a bloke.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

A lot of Gaga fans weren't even born during Madonna's heyday. And maybe some of our older parents would say that Madonna just copied someone else during before we ourselves were born, haha.

But Lady Gaga seem to do things her way, like openly supporting gay rights and showing up on gay rights rallies, impromptu visiting her fans (like that young Canadian girl singing her songs or in the same stage as that Lady Gaga lookalike performer), etc.

She does have talent beyond her pop music though, if you watch Youtube videos of her performing live unplugged/acoustic editions of her songs, that are appreciated by even other respected musicians.

Personally, I like Lady Gaga. She may look creepy at times, but she is more intelligent than people think. She also has heart, soul and pizazz. I actually like some of her music and prefer it to all the bland, generic idol groups in the world these days. She is also constantly active in a number of good causes.

Anyway she can play piano very well...
