When you consider Japan has only won a total of 9 Gold Medals overall in 19 Winter Olympic meetings.... Hanyu's Gold Medal in a Premier Winter Event is quite substantial.

Not sure, but I think Ten is an ethnic Korean (as many Koreans were forced from the East to other parts of the former Soviet Union) as is the gymnast Nellie Kim.
But certainly, three Asian faces on the podium!

While this case might not apply(except for Japan), it has been noted that while Europeans still dominate, athletes from Asian countries have made incremental gains at recent winter Olympics.
